HondaRacer1124
First time post and let me start by saying how happy I am to find such a good forum. I been spending the last coulple days pouring over the vast amount of info available. I'm a 44 year old Dad who has wanted to get back into the hobby and now my 11 year old wants to get involed. YES! So now I have to keep my Wife happy, no paint fumes in the house. Attic and garage wil be to cold very soon. I did not see a tool section, hope this is in the right spot. Looking for opinions and some experience with them. Looking at compressors Paasche has a small one with no tank. Then how do you regulate pressure? The Micro Lux also looks good. Noise will be a concern. Paasche also has a reasonable spray booth ($150.0). What makes the other units in the $300 range? Can't just be size can it? Thank You in advance and I look foward to sharing projects as they come up. I wish this was around in the 80's, the digital "in progress" photos alone are worth so much. CAL
Having had or still have Badger and Iwata brushes, I can say the Badger is a good brush. However, the Iwata is a fantastic brush. I use my Iwata most often for most applications and with great results. I know I will beat up for this but frankly I didn't like the Paasche brush. I didn't like the fat handle and the quality didn't seem quite as good as Badger, and it was no where close to Iwata. You will just need to get a small 0-60 psi regulator for airbrushes. I built my one paint booth because I couldn't find a ready made one that I really liked. Edited November 18, 2010 by CAL
GeeBee
Paasche also do a compressor with an airtank, model # D300R, I've just bought the same unit, but not branded as Paasche here in the U.K, but very quiet, I've also got there spraybooth, (HB-16-13)again, not branded as Paasche over here, which I will only be using acylic's with it, I will wait until the warmer weather to spray with lacquers and spray them in the booth I have in the garage, but it's way too cold to go out there this time of year, the Paasche seems a good booth and a little bit bigger than I though it would be, for the price I can't think of anything else that comes near. Eric I have and love my micro mark booth.I do have one complaint with it though..the filters are $$$. It uses a 3 stage system, carbon, foam, and paper up top. I use lacquers and seem to go thru a lot of the paper filters. I use Badger 155 brushes, and love them, I am thinking of a gravity feed Iwata for kandys.....I have two compressors, a fixed 22psi airbrush w/o a tank and it has a water trap. My other is a small 1 gallon tank with a regulator and water trap inline, this is used for auto air water based paints and enamels (32-60psi) in donn yosts system look into " PACE" booths.....great stuff! cruz
I made my own booth with some leftover wood panels I had laying around. After that, I went out and purchased a PSC Dayton Blower, vented it out from my basement and it works wonders. I did pay just under 90 dollars for the blower but you have to consider the importance of purchasing the right blower for the application. Below is a link from Grainger for those interested in obtaining one. http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/oem-specialty-blowers/blowers/hvacr/ecatalog/N-d0x Here are some pictures of the work I did... Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki I purchased a Badger airbrush at Michael's using their 40% discount coupons. I have a Crescendo airbrush and it's a good quality airbrush. I use a Craftsman air compressor that has been with me for almost 18 years now. GeeBee
Well apart from the Expo tool I spotted a extraction hose kit for it on a site in germany, it arrived today, but I was a bit put back when I logged onto a hobby website over here to see that Expo tools now import it, and at a much lower price than I paid, oh well, you live & learn. The kit is pretty simple with only a few parts,Anyway the instructions quote "just remove the screws holding the fan to the back of the spray booth and use them to connect the hose" sounds simply, but the screws are too short once they have gone through the plastic shroud, there's not enough thread to get the to bite properly, luckily I had a box of bolts the correct thread, and simply put in some that were slightly longer. If there available in the U.S I don't know, but worth looking out for one if you have the spraybooth to go with it, no doubts it could be modified to work with other spraybooths.
