gtx6970
Anyone know for sure on the interior for the Golden Commados 1964 Plymouth. #5 The white 1964 Plymouth 2 door hardtop. I am about 99% positive the car is a max wedge auto, but not 100% sure on the interior , color or bench or buckets ? I think its gold bucket seats but would like to be sure before I go any further on this project All I can find are pictures of the later 64 which is #6 ,,,,,which is a Hemi auto 2 door sedan with gold interior or the 65 AFX car PS, Anyone have any ideas on how to paint the wheels in the 2 tone treatment ? Masking them off I have a feeling is not possible without serious bleed thru this car is the one I am after info on Edited March 22, 2016 by gtx6970
Nytrozilla
Thinking out loud on the two tone wheels. You'll still use tape or pin stripe to get an even line, then use a liquid mask. Score the line with an X-Actamundo blade, pull the tape and shoot.I've never done this before, but that's what I'd try first. If that doesn't work, liquid mask the whole wheel, then slice / score down the center.Scrap experimentation is your friend Bill. gtx6970
With all the bumps and edges it has to go over I wasn't confident tape would work . I had thought about maybe play-do I've never used liquid mask before so it never entered my mind........Might have to look into that.Spent a little time yesterday to start fitting Johan fenderwell headers to the Lindberg engine/ chassis ( that was fun,,,,,,,,,,NOT )
gtx6970
Sweet, am in talks with Jim Hall via Facebook on some smaller details to replicate this car as best as I can Edited March 23, 2016 by gtx6970

gtx6970
Yep,so far it was gold interior like any other 64 Plymouth , no roll bar , push button auto, white engine compartment, orange 426 max wedge engine . fender-well headers . I was already pretty sure its gold interior and buckets . But wasn't sure of the little stuff like if the dash mounted push button shift was still employed then. gtx6970
I managed to get a little build time on this one. After talking to Jim Hall about the car. I decided it was gold interior ( this is Tamiya champagne gold ) and it was front buckets and it had a back seat,,,at least while Golden Commandos campaigned the car. I still have to paint and install the arm rests,The detail paint the window crank handles . Instrument panel is done,,,just needs glued in. My hurdle at the moment is trying to make an old set of Johan fenderwell headers work with the Lindberg chassis and engine Edited March 28, 2016 by gtx6970

10thumbs
Hi Bill, nice project you have going on here. Concerning the fender well headers, I've had great success with using core solder in the size you need. I only have measurements in metric, but 2mm is as about as perfect to scale as you can get for a Max Wedge motor. The stuff is easy to bend, and it looks like unfinished metal, read dull aluminum. Just cut the approximate length with scissors, and heat the strips in water (hot water, it doesn't have to boil) so the flux bleeds out (otherwise the leaked flux will eventually leak out and make a ruin of your work). If you don't mind, here's a quick look at 2mm solder headers on a 1:25 car; You can cut drill holes in the heads, bend the solder wire to where they're supposed to go. Leave the ends though long, after attaching them to the heads (use CA), you can route them under the chassis as you wish. Finally, just cut the ends off with small scissors. Hopefully I didn't butt in here, but this worked for me just fine. I'd do it again, time after time. gtx6970
No problems I like that idea,, the Johan pieces isn't looking to promising they are gonna work AND clear the front tires. I'll try this and see how it looks
