Well, I can say I've managed to get another one out of the unfinished pile and into the display case,,,finished.

One of the re-issues from several years ago. Lots of waves and sink marks in the body needed  work . Painted in Tamiya pure white,, followed by Testors white lightning,  then 3 coats of Testors wet look clear.

Its not perfect by any means. But overall I'm happy with it. I've wanted one done and in  my case for many years.

Comments or criticisms more than welcome, I'm a big boy and can take it .

Thanks for looking in

Pretty neat Bill!

A couple of the pictures make it look light blue to me, but the others look right.

Steve

I think its the color. I had a heck of a time getting my phone camera to focus on it. Its most definitely a pearl white in person.

If it ever quits raining around here,,,I'll get it outside and try to use my actual camera on it in natural light. ( after It dries up enough to mow my grass)

Always nice to see this one. By far the best looking show/concept car of its era, IMO.

BTW... this is what Bruce Wayne drove when he was off duty... ;):D

You did a great job! Congrats on getting another one done! im trying to get some of my "later date" builds done too. I know its gotta feel good!

Great job!

This concept is the best looking ever in my opinion. It was a great looking car until Barris ruined it.

The color is just right for it, and it's great to see how this kit still builds into a nice replica.

Hmmm... as good as this car looks, I think the Batmobile was actually an improvement on this design! Especially the opened-up wheelweels... B)

I don't think so. Specially the wide tires, the multitude of bat logos, that bat nonsense launchers on the back, the ugly grille, and the fake turbine exit. The car went from glamour, fine taste and sophistication to being something kids would find awesome.

If it was a real production car, I would buy the Futura, and not the Batmobile.

Nevertheless, like I said before, taste is like belly buttons, everybody has one.

I'm talking about the overall design. Forget the bat logos and the rocket launchers. To my eye, the open wheelwells and fender flares look better than the Futura's closed-off wheelwells. Also like the Batmobile headlight treatment better. But yes, it's all a matter of personal taste.

Steve

The Futura was painted a very light blue pearl.  The "green" color on the box art, and in existing photo's from that period was the result of degradation of the original color transparencies.

Yep, it is a matter of personal taste. The wheel wells of the Futura, with that continuous chrome trim going all the way on the side of the car, is one of my favorite features. The elimination of that and the wheel wells change is what you like about the redesign.

If the Future were a real production car, maybe the alterations you like would be done on the following production year. I would be a fan of the first year, and you of the second year.

For example, let's take a Ford car: I like the 1957 Fairlane a lot better than the 1958 version, that has a "heavy" front end, and a odd looking fake air intake on the hood. For me, Ford ruined the design for 1958. I like the 1957 Fairlane a lot better than I like the 1957 Bel Air. On Bel Airs, I like the 1956 better than the 1957 and 1955.

Art is correct on the Futura's color... it was an "ice blue"... sort of a bluish-white pearl. Then it was painted a bright red for its appearance in a couple of movies. And after that, of course, it was transformed into the TV Batmobile.

But as the Futura it was never painted green.

I tried a clear blue over the pearl and didn't  like the look. It lost all the pearl effect. SO I painted it what it looks like in the few color pictures I have or could find of the car,  pearl white.

I know film bleaches some colors out. But in my spoon test the clear blue over pearl white didn't work so well ,,,at least not for me. To me it made it look like a plain dirty white .. and in the trash can the spoon went .

As far as the the better version, this versus the Batmobile?  Its a no brainer. The Batmobile wins every time. But it has nothing to do with over all design. Its because its was Batmans ride

But to be honest I like them both ,,,a lot . and feel the Futura was one of if not THE BEST design study / show car of its time . But then I think some of the earlier / late 40s show cars were pretty nice as well.

No way I can argue with you, Tulio. It's all personal preference... no "right," no "wrong." B)

But you love a '66 Galaxie, right??

Oh, yeah! But I like the '67 even better.  Back in the day, my uncle had one. White, with a blood-red interior. What a beautiful car... I remember it to this day! B)

Can't beat a white Galaxie with a red interior. Friend of mine has a Brazilian made '67 (for you, a '66) unrestored, unmolested, light gray with a red interior. I love when he brings me the car for a check up.
