Gluebomber Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 This model represents the Talbot Lago T26 GS that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1950. The car was the first to complete a lap over 100 mph and averaged 89.7 mph over the course of the race. The driver, Louis Rosier, drove all but 20 minutes of the 24 hours. He had to stop to replace a head and needed time to wash up and get something to eat so his son, Jean-Louis, took over for two laps before turning the car back over to his dad to finish the race! The model is a 1/24 resin kit by Fernando Pinto Models of Portugal. While it's basically box stock, I had to replace the fender struts with stiffer material, the metal grill screen because I messed up cutting out the one in the kit, the windshield frame, and added home made hood straps. Paint is Tamiya spray French Blue decanted and airbrushed. The model is far from perfect, but I'm glad to add this important car to my shelf. Any comments positive or negative are welcome. Thanks for looking!
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 Beautiful. I've always loved these Talbots, and the fenderless GP cars. I've heard of the Fernando Pinto kits, but haven't seen one built before on this site. Beautiful beautiful beautiful.
Harry P. Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 Very nicely done! To make a great model a bit greater, you might consider adding the brackets that the hood straps attach to, instead of having the straps just hanging there connected to nothing...
Gluebomber Posted June 3, 2016 Author Posted June 3, 2016 (edited) Thanks for the kind words, Guys.Harry, I agree those straps need some connection points. I'd been trying to figure out the best way to handle that, but they're something I need to add. Thanks for the comment. Edited June 3, 2016 by Gluebomber
sjordan2 Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 Superb, spectacular, etc. I only know Pinto for his terrific wire wheels, available in different sizes on eBay. Did he fabricate the rest of the kit parts?
Gluebomber Posted June 3, 2016 Author Posted June 3, 2016 Thanks again for the kind comments.Skip, Fernando Pinto has a line of complete kits. He focuses on classic F1 and Indy cars as well as Le Mans and Carrera Panamericana sports cars. He sells them on eBay and has a Facebook page. He's also putting together his own web site that has a link on FB.
bbowser Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 Outstanding! Those wheels come pre-assembled? Very nicely done.
sjordan2 Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 Outstanding! Those wheels come pre-assembled? Very nicely done.Yes, they do, and with tires (in some cases optional). He is very meticulous about providing dimensions in mm.
Daddyfink Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 Very nice build, that is one nice looking race car.
Silver Foxx Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 This looks great , a real nice build of an unusual subject .
Nacho Z Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 I'm not sure that I've ever seen one of these before, (model car and model mfr.) It is nice to see something out of the ordinary. It looks like you did a beautiful job on this kit.
Bernard Kron Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 Handsome model of, as you say, an important car. And fearlessly presented in striking closeup making it all the more impressive. Thanks for sharing!
Lizard Racing Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 I didn't see anything wrong with the "far from Perfect." A very good job on a classic racecar.
Foxer Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 I really like your build and that color really sets it off.
