mike s Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 This is my 3d printed 1/25 truck, did it at home on a ultimaker 2+ and Sketchup. will post more pic soon
espo Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 Are you printing the cab and the bed both ? How thick is it compared to the original kit ? How about the frame ?
oldcarfan Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 You've kind of dropped a bomb on us all! LOL! Everyone is going to want details. I'll start with this; Is that how it looked coming right out of the printer? Really nice.
gtx6970 Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 Impressive is an understatement Whats your plans with this. If ths is a master for resin casting...keep me in mind
JollySipper Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 AWESOME......!! I used to own a 1:1 '71 D100........... These Sweptlines are cool.................
mikemodeler Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 That is awesome and I am very impressed with the cleanliness of it. Like others, I would be interested to know more about this and if you plan to make it available to others.
mod3l Lover Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 You have to make a mold of that truck, that's allthere is to it!! I look forward to seeing the progress on this one. David S.
mike s Posted January 8, 2017 Author Posted January 8, 2017 Are you printing the cab and the bed both ? How thick is it compared to the original kit ? How about the frame ? No not printing both cab and bed together. Using a 74 truck kit for parts. You need think of it as a old revell kit, print it flat. If you print in pla it will sand like a rock. Print in abs that is model plastic. I print in pla for test shots and abs for the final result the sides are printed with a .6mm tip at speed 50. comes out like 220 to 100 grit. I only use the outer shell not the back, set printer to a thicker shell. 6mm Tip x2 = .047 inch outer shell. Small parts printed at .25 tip at 15 to 25 speed sand out with 400.I can print down to a .013 line. Printing it will give a good start both sids will be the same right or wrong
wrecker388 Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Awesome! I'm glad I'm not the only person on here who has been using a 3d printer for model parts. Yours are a whole lot better quality than mine though.
wrecker388 Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 I seriously need to get a spool of ABS filament. PLA is sandable, but like you said it is a rock.
espo Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Wow. I can see so many uses including having spare parts to have for back up.
DrKerry Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 So are you going to send this for casting at all? If so I'd be interested in a copy for sure!!!!
Ken Kitchen Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 WOW what can I add that hasn't already been said. I know are you willing to share the files so those of us that have 3D printers can try it ourselves? if so I'd be interested in giving it a try.
mike s Posted January 10, 2017 Author Posted January 10, 2017 .thanks guys for the kind comments. Wall keep you posted on the progress
