This build started when I was building my factory stock '48. My cousin saw it in the works, and asked me to build him one. Like the stock kit (police coupe) hit hobby shops and vanished in weeks, he couldn't find one. So he bought the Custom Coupe. Looks like here there is a demand for a factory stock 1948 Ford, and I swear I didn't buy them all. maybe just a case... Or two...

Anyways, I was given total freedom to build it as I wanted, as long as it were black, like my stock '48.

The kit itself has great bones, but a really bad body. The roof is butchered, and many important details of the '48 are missing, like the proper hood, hubcaps, and taillights.

The hubcap options are ugly to say the least, and none is of Ford heritage.

Since I lack both the patience and skill to un-butcher the roof, I decided to go as far as I could from the Custom theme, and more into a Hot Rod theme.

First I redid the hood, reconstructing the central part out of body filler and a lot of sanding. Also re inscribed the cowl vent, and the fender separation lines from the body. Cast resin copies of the stock taillights, and had a set of hubcaps on my parts box, probably from a Revell F-100 I built for a friend a long time ago.

The rest of the parts are from the kit.

I was really tempted to remake all the missing trim, but that ugly as cartoon like top cut my enthusiasm. The result is the best I could do with the parts I had.

Fortunately, back to factory stock now.

Another one of your beautiful signature black paint jobs. I was disappointed that Revell chose to not have the stock chrome moldings on this kit. It would be easier to remove them if not wanted than to make your own. The interior finish look perfect.

Thanks guys, for a job I did in a week, I think it turned out ok.

I'm not into custom cars, but you did a fine job as usual on this one .....

Thanks!! Usually, when I build one (not stock), is to use a kit that's incomplete, or damaged. In this case, it was a commission build, so...

Thanks!! I'm disappointed with the butchered top. If it wasn't a commission build, I would never get this kit.

Ya did a great job on it. That butchered roof is a tough fix. Still trying to figure out how to unbutcher it. The windshield may not be tough, but those 1/4 windows will be tough.

Probably get a stock one and do my own chop.

I know how to un-butcher it!! Get a stock body, and keep it stock;)

The "procedure" of chopping a car's roof has it's fans. I'm not one of them.

Cars are perfect the way they roll out of the factory line.

Probably, next on the line will be a '48 with parts from the Testors kit to convert it into a '46. Back to the Future comes to mind. The car I likes most on the movie, Biff's Ford.

Yea, I know that is your style and I utterly respect and admire your builds and look forward to them. Wish I had the time to finish a few.

Man, this is badass!

I tried to see the flaws you mentioned. Couldn't see them. It looks amazing.

The black paint is 100 miles deep. Gorgeous.
