mk11 Posted March 4, 2017 Posted March 4, 2017 The other book that sounds a bit like what you recall was credited to author Bill Neuman in the 1960's as I recall, but it had a number of Don Emmons projects inside (though he may not have been credited as such)... I don't remember Mr Emmons getting any credit at all from Neumann in the book. Learning the basics from this book, I guess I was a student of his without even knowing it Even though there are more accurate looking materials to use these days, the basics haven't changed. Glad I still have it... mike

unclescott58 Posted March 5, 2017 Author Posted March 5, 2017 (edited) Here's an old one, my all time favorite. A classic. Even though it was published in the early 1960's. A fun look at the modeling scene at the time. Scott Edited March 5, 2017 by unclescott58
unclescott58 Posted March 6, 2017 Author Posted March 6, 2017 (edited) Happy to say, I won the auction on eBay last night for the book Here is Your Hobby, Car Customizing. Ex Los Angles County Library copy. So it has a little use on it. But, the photos the buyer showed, it didn't look to bad. And the price was right. I got in for about $30.00 with shipping. Looking forward to getting that, plus the new, old stock, copy of Here is Your Hobby, Model Car Building I purchased off of ABE Books late this last week. Eventually I'll have to hunt down a copy of Here is Your Hobby, Slot Car Racing. It's always fun to get pleasant parts of ones childhood back. Scott Edited March 6, 2017 by unclescott58
unclescott58 Posted March 7, 2017 Author Posted March 7, 2017 Every Monday night some friends and I get together for dinner. One of those friends, Dr. Bob, is a car guy. But, not a model building car guy. At the same time Bob will pickup different things at swap meetings that he knows I'd be interested in. At a swap meet recently he came across a vendor who had tied up bundles of magazines for $5.00 a bundle. One of the bundles had 34 Rod and Custom magazines dating from 1962 through 1965. He thought they might interest me because of the amount of model car content he knew was in those particular issues. Boy! Was he right about that. I found it especially ironic considering the discussions about those exact magazines on this thread. He says all 34 magazines were in very good shape. Only one has a ripped cover. There are no repeats. They do have a slightly musty smell. And I could have them for the $5.00 he paid for them. But, only after he's done reading them. Needless to say, I gave the $5.00 right there on the spot. As we were leaving, he indicated I could really pick them anytime, as he was already done looking at them. So sometime in the next couple of days, I'll have to stop by his house and pick them up. How cool is that? Again, especially the we've been having a discussion here about those exact magazines.Scott
Phirewriter Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Nice score! I lost many of my vintage magazine due to a fire where they were stored.
