66 Pro Mod Nova (3D printing magic)

I'm trying something new.Thanks to Shapeways 3D printing.They make a great 66 Pro mod Nova.The quality is excellent.Ive gotta prep the body,and thanks to some other builders on this website,they explained how...Un like resin,or plastic.

Hey Ron, I love the look. 

Having spent the change to get a quality body, please consider removing the trademark stamping from the chassis.

Oh hey meat man,I'm just messing around with the chassi.This one like I said was from the pro street Firebird.I don't know what chassi I might use.I know that the chassis/cage should be scratch built for this car...I agree.However my building skills as far as scratch building a chassi,aren't that great.I may not even build this car.Its a 3D printed car as I said.,and again,I never used a body in that material.I don't know what i'am going to do with it.I bought the body from Shapeways.They carry a bunch of cool bodies.Also Shaun,I'm confused,are you saying if I build this car,I shouldn't prep the body???.Ah,doesn't matter much anyway,my luck,I'll screw the whole car up.I just really liked the body...I'll See what happens...Oh Dodge,what body did u buy,and was it from Shapeways?

I gotta tell ya,this is the some of the weirdest material,I've ever seen.Very strong stuff.Its all layered like a tree.??Cool stuff.

I guess so.Not sure what your asking.The body is highly detailed.It has a dull finish.Sort of like resin,but different.I don't know if that makes sense,or not.But again,you can see the layering as the body was printed.As I said,the body is very strong,but very flexible too.Im gonna probably spray the filler primer,and start sanding soon...Again,I hope I don't screw it up...Lol

At a glance, this is definitely not Frosted Ultra Detail (FUD)!  Looks like Shapeways "White Strong and Flexible" material (WSF), which is much more affordable for large items, but needs considerable finishing work. If this body were printed in FUD, it would probably cost hundreds of dollars, so I'm not surprised it's the less detailed material.

For very small parts (engine components, wheels and tires) I'd strongly recommend the FUD material though.

as an fyi, the bodies in 1/25th in FUD (Ultra Frosted Detail) are about $120.

Correct,it is not a smooth frosted body...I don't know,it just from a 3D printer,Ah well,I'll see how it comes out.I may not even build it.I might just slap some primer,then paint it,,and use it as a drag slot car..Like I said before,I just like the look of the body.And nobody else makes a pro mod 66,67 Nova.Bandit resin used to make one,but I don't think they sell them anymore.Also,as far as what I paid for the Shapeway body,I think it was around $50-$60 bucks.I gotta look.

It’s a shame, that the car got toasted, cRuSHeD!!!!!when a stack of books fell on It,and it got destroyed, as flat as a pancake.?.Oh well.

Hi!

An acquaintance of mine told me that he simplifed his finishing or "smoothening" af 3D printed parts by lightly (emphasis on LIGHTLY) air-brushed them with pure acetone in numerous successive light coats, and that it "melted" or "flooded-leveled" the surface ridges in a very efficient way. Now, I've never experienced those printed parts, much less the acetone "surfacing". 

Anyone in the room had any experience with that technique? Just curious...

I may get another 66 Pro Mod Nova.I’ve bought other pro mod cars from TDR/Shape-ways,and Comp Resins.The Comp resins finish is so much better.I don’t have months trying to finish prepping the Nova body, and then watch it get crushed.But the Nova’s body is really cool looking.Like I said,the other body got squashed when a stack of books fell on it.??.Ah,I guess I’ll decide soon what to do about buying another Nova body, from Shape-Ways, and this time,I’ll try to use the suggestions some of my friends, and other guys on here made to get a nice finish with out spending months and over $125+ for the good (FUD)finish, or (UFD,) or whatever it is????.
