Bowtienutz Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 What type of sleeper would be appropriate for a Ford LN 8000?
plastic trucker Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 I've seen some with a KW style top. But I don't know how the crawl through is shaped.
Bowtienutz Posted January 17, 2018 Author Posted January 17, 2018 never aw one myself even in picture form maybe they used the side door. I'm doing a phantom race car hauler.
Muncie Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 (edited) a couple of thoughts - checkout the aftermarket sleeper boxes at AITM - http://aitruckmodels.com/product-category/model-truck-parts/sleep-boxes/ Most sleepers on an LN8000 race would be from the aftermarket - either factory or dealer installed. I don't believe Ford had one and on a custom race car hauler anything goes anyway. The installer would modify the back of cab to fit. Edited January 17, 2018 by Muncie
Russell C Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 Anybody know if the ones on the LTL-9000s were factory-made or vendor-supplied? They always struck me as being different from the ones commonly seen on Kenworths & Peterbilts, but more rounded that the ones on IHs.
Muncie Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 I know Ford used some sleepers made by Able Body - possibly factory installed but I'm not sure which model Able Body sleeper they used, if they were unique for Ford, or on which truck models.
Fat Brian Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 I'm working on a L9000 and used the Able Body sleeper from the GMC General kit. I didn't want to use something identifiable as a Peterbilt or Kenworth unit. I made mine a crawl through, I didnt look to see if a walkthrough was available.
Ben Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 The sleeper I used for my 76 LTL9000 conversion kit, (like the red and white LTL9000 brochure pic above), comes from the AMT Peterbilt 359 kit. The third issue with a slightly flat top and rounded roof edges. Ford did not produce any sleepers so any aftermarket sleeper would be acceptable.
mistermodel Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 a mercury would work also.I saw one picture that clearly showed the mercury access hole matched the ford window, but I think modifying the cab to match the bunk opening would be better,as many were done that way
