Your favourite Box art

Recommended Posts

Why are these my favorite box art models?  Because I built them and took the pictures for the box art of course ;)

The first is the Mini Exotics Aston Martin DBR1.

The bottom one is the Bill Koons (Images) Porsche 908-3 transkit for the Heller 908.

Now back to our regular programing.

I’d love to get a print of art from this box, it just has such an atmosphere to it.

Not that I want any competition in my search for one, but a poster of that box art exists:

Great art ! You can almost feel the thunder of that 421. The custom pic brings another of my favorites to mind...

always loved the '50s/'60s industrial art, as well as a lot of the mcm architecture.

Round 2 seems to have a great graphic department that has a good feel for the products they're selling.

More like one person. Round2 is not a big company by any means, and they do sub-contact box art work, like the above '60 Starliner, which was done by Brad Leisure:

I really like this simple, clean box art of the Silhouette.  This kit was a tie-in to a TV special back in the 1960s, "Wonderful World of Wheels."  I've only seen box photos of the kit, never the real thing. But it looks like it was identical to the standard AMT kit except for the box art. It included the trailer and had 3 building options.

When I was just a kid, the "gotta have it" reaction to box art was set off by Monogram's "Badman", first and foremost. Bold yellow 55, red tinted glass and scoop, strong black graphic slashing over the fender; what's NOT to love?! The "Quicksilver" '60 Chevy delivery wagon was a close second, followed by the "Paddy Wagon". Hmmm, Tom Daniels fan, I reckon! Dave Deal's stuff was irresistible as well. Don't get me started on Aurora kits; they made me want everything; aircraft, dinosaurs, and especially movie monsters!

Some modern art ticks all the right boxes, too, with Moebius' "56 Chrysler 300 being an outstanding example. Love it...

This Alfa Romeo kit box is nicely rendered, too...

Too bad so many photos got kilt’ by Photobucket...

Saw this cool 1/32 box top on eBay this morning...Herbbie!

For those who like to build commercial vehicles...that 1/35 scale AeroPlast VW is also available as a police car!  I won this kit in a raffle at the NNL Los Angeles show years ago.  They're not horrible kits, but have a "short-run" look to them. Thick plastic etc. Rye Field Models recently released a very nice, modern 1/35 scale kit of a WWII-era VW Bug, complete with opening hood and trunk.

Ha! A Polish kit (including Beetle's Polish nickname 'Garbus")!  Not something I see often here.  Usually Polish kits depict armor or military airplanes.

But this box-art is not as impressive as the racing version's.
