Revell Bronco vs. Revell Baja Bronco

Recommended Posts

Question to anyone who has built either one of these. I would like to know, since there is such a drastic price difference (double), how easy to make the regular Bronco into the Baja version? I ask because I am trying to replicate my dad's old 1970 Bronco which was lifted, big tires and had the rear fenders cut with flares.

If I buy the regular Bronco, I will need to cut the rear fenders and buy a flare kit plus get bigger tires. Anyone done this? Was the flare kit easy to do (get right)?

I may be answering my own question here as I need to buy the flare kit and bigger tires plus do the cutting of the fenders which I will not need to do on the Baja version. Any other differences in the 2 kits? Just let me know your experience with either of these kits.

Thanx

I have noticed a price difference in my area between the two models, but it was only about $5 which I think is a valid extra considering the extra goodies in the Baja kit. As for any conversion parts needed I would look at Fireball Model Works. They are listed under After Market / Resin section. They should have everything you would need and good quality castings.

I built the Revell Bronco (original release), and altered the fenders with flare kits from Fireball model works and used his bigger tires.  If you search "Revell Bronco" you should be able to find pics.  When I take the original cost of the kit and then add the Fireball resin components, the cost has doubled and the work to modify the fenders, which is very doable but has to be done carefully, doesn't seem worth it when the Baja kit is available.  BTW, not knocking the Fireball resin components...they are outstanding quality, reasonably priced and you get excellent service but the costs just add up the way I outlined.

Perfect answer to my questions. Thanx! I'll save myself the hassle and get the Baja Bronco for my project. BTW, your built one looks like what I am going to do, except bigger tires and a Maroon color with white top. Good job!

My local hobby shop has the Baha kit listed $2.75 CHEAPER than the original.

Maybe you should shop around because it looks to me as the Baha being twice the price of the original is BS and that shop is taking advantage of thier customers.

Activepowersports.com does not have it. They are right around the corner from me and I spoke with them. They are just a warehouse and he said he does not have it in stock even though the site says otherwise. Believe me, I have been shopping around for it and haven't seen it less than $45 plus shipping in the U.S. Please PM a link to it if you see one in the $25 range. Thanx

If you are planning on lifting the Bronco and adding larger tires, I suggest you check out Fireball Modelworks as they have a lift kit and larger tires specifically for this kit. Joseph's stuff is outstanding and exactly what you need!
