Grand Sport #005 Pre Race

I believe I'll be doing this one in an as delivered form, such as when it was unloaded at Nassau. I took the advice given and modified the chassis before assembly.

It's just a start but I figure I'd do this and the #003 together. I used Tamiya tape and covered the attachment points and the toothpick to hold while painting. It can be easily removed and will provide another clean attachment point. The Pelham Blue should be the accurate color for this build.

Thanks guys, I managed to find some time to paint a few pieces. Just enough to keep myself busy!

I used Alclad white aluminium, magnesium and steel. I also tried a different technique this time. I went much lighter with the Alclad on the engine and rear axle. Almost misting the colors on, allowing the black to show through more. Giving it a darker tone. They rotors are sprayed aluminium and the calipers are steel. Some touch up with a brush and they look pretty good. If you notice I numbered them for easier assembly later. Also on the 003 chassis I used MM lacquer which was great. This time I used MM enamel, I is really slow drying and without a dehydrator it will need to sit for some time.

I've wondered. Why would a race car have the spare mounted on the car at all?

Race rules? The Ferrari 330P4 I built recently has a spare mounted above the transmission, behind the engine and visible through the big hole in the back. I can't believe they'd carry that extra weight around unless they had to... It might also be that it's necessary because in some races the driver can't be helped out on the circuit... I've seen enough pictures of lone guys trying to dig themselves out of the sand traps at Le Mans to think that must be (or have been) a rule there...

best,

M.

Yes rules at the time required a spare to be carried on-board as well as provide space for luggage and a passenger.   Some of the most infamous are the (2) luggage boxes at the rear of the GT40.
