stavanzer Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 Here is the Build review. Thanks to Chris Phillips (H.P.I. Guy) I am really let down by this kit. I've gotten all the Revell '48 Fords. But this kit, just seems 'phoned-in'..... New Grille, Wheels and the bumper. Some just "average, decals." Since all of the work on this was done prior to Blitz buying Revell, they cannot be blamed for this kit being so "Blah". But nonetheless, it strikes me as a weak effort. I'll stop my '48 Ford buying here. I hope that others like it better. I'd like to see the period Hop-Up parts from the chopped coupe, married to the Stock Coupe or even back in this 'Vert, with a better vibe. Quote
Richard Bartrop Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 It looks like it will make a very nice stock '48 Ford convertible, and those chrome wheels are definitely useful for any period hot rod. I'm tempted to get one. Quote
GeeBee Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 I'll be getting one as soon i see them this side of the pond, I built the older Monogram version a few years ago, I'll be building it stock but in a different colour now MCW lacquer ship to the U.K. Quote
Richard Bartrop Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 Are there trim rings for the stock wheels? Also pondering how much work would be involved in making a Sportsman version. Quote

Chris' review videos always show the contents at the very beginning. This has always been an excellent kit, originating as a Revell-Monogram Pro Modeler kit in 1998. There are review topics here on the forum and elsewhere for the closely related Revell '48 Ford Custom and Coupe kits, too. Quote

I did watch it, and he used the custom wheels, and if there were trim rings they weren't on the part of the chrome tree he showed to the camera, which is why I am asking. Quote
disconovaman Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 I got the kit over the weekend and I really like it... I'm just one guy though lol! The wheels and tires are my favorites... I think I'm gonna do the 1st version of the movie car... Before they fixed it up... The decals are really neat too. I think it's worth having... Quote
ChrisBcritter Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 Very glad to see those chrome reverses don't have the front hubcaps molded on! I'll be watching for a set from the usual eBay part vendors... Quote

berr13 Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 I needed some beauty rings for a '48 Ford build I'm working on, and I raided one of the Revell '32 Fords--the rings from that kit fit on the '48 Ford wheels like they're made for them. Quote
RichCostello Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 The Pro Modeler kit had black or white stripe decals for the wheels instead of trim rings. Quote
GeeBee Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 The chrome ring on the '48 convertible is actually molded into the wheel, which i only found out after I'd finished building mine. Quote
Richard Bartrop Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 Then a little BMF should take care of that, and probably look better than a separate ring. I have a couple of the Revell '40s and the trims rings are easily the most realistic ones, but are also insanely delicate. Quote

dbostream Posted November 22, 2018 Posted November 22, 2018 (edited) I know Testors released a '48 Ford convertible many years ago, is it any good? Or is this one better? Edited November 22, 2018 by dbostream Quote

I'd stick with the Revell version, the Testors is based on the old IMC model which was first released back in 1965. Quote
Deuces Posted November 24, 2018 Posted November 24, 2018 Yep! My '40 Standard has those also... I was just looking at it the other day.... But why the 4 attachment points on the tree???? ?? Quote

You would need to grab a set of rear fenders from an AMT '41 Woody (Sportsmans used the SD fenders, wagon should be close), and use sheet and strip plastic for the rest. It would make for a great looking build though. Quote
gearhedjon Posted November 24, 2018 Posted November 24, 2018 Didn't the movie car when finished have a clear hood? Quote
