1968 Baldwin Motion Chevelle

After finishing the Buick GSX, I was eager to start on the brand new 1968 Chevelle from Revell. The Camaro cost $9,300 and the Chevelle was over $7,000! The Chevelle was used by Mr. Schneider to flat tow the Camaro to Texas and eventually into Mexico.

I’ve always wanted to build the pair in towing configuration and was well on my way when a couple problems arose with the Chevelle. #1 was the tail lights. This fustration sidelined the project for a long time.

After realizing that the new Revell Chevelle will probably be released as a 1969 down the road, I decided to continue to wait on this project.

One reason I believe it is the prototype is the hood. It’s the only one I have seen with Corvette scoop with no stinger portion on top of the Chevelle SS hood! I spoke with Joel Rosen a couple weeks ago but didn’t ask him about the 68. I have an email in to him to see if my suspicions are correct.

In the meantime I started getting stuff together for this project. And here is where I’m at.

The stinger scoop is from the 1967 Nickey Camaro, side exhaust is from the 1969 Motion Camaro and the wheels are from EBay.

Fabulous project, I'll be watching!

If that stinger is from the Revell '67 Camaro kit, you might want to take a look at its shape. I think it's much too flat--look at it head-on VS the pic of the real Chevelle you posted. I'm working on one of those and am planning to work the top of the stinger down on both sides.

That is correct. He also sold kits for mini cars, dune buggies and a lot of bolt on fiberglass stuff.

I don’t have any pictures of the specific motor for this car so a little artistic license is in order. I’m shooting for something like this.

Finding headers to fit a big block Chevelle proved a little difficult. The best ones I had in stock had no flange to mate to the heads with. So I have to fabricate something.7108C5CC-1857-4069-935B-75943F7025AC.thumb.jpeg.9c26cbc0caf459d3519ed4d6614fed26.jpeg

If anyone knows what kit these were in, please let me know. I’d like to make another set and cast them for future projects.

You can see here where I had to notch the cross member on one side and frame on the other.

I put the kit valve covers on temporarily as I have a set of Motion covers in stock.

This distributor is one I cast myself. I feed the wires through the mold and then pour the resin. It’s a little difficult, but the result is  great and a real time saver! Less eye strain too! ?
