Steamboat Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 I recently finished this one for our club build, which was to build a Christmas present. I don't know a lot about GM's, so I built it box stock, without even adding engine wiring. The paint is Testors White Lightning rattle can lacquer with Tamiya rattle can clear. I wanted the interior to be a burgundy color, so I primed the pieces with red oxide primer, and top coated them with a light coat of Tamiya Bright Red PS-34. I'm pretty happy with the results. First time for me using a black chalk wash on the grille. It's super easy and I'll never paint one with enamel again! Comments and criticism are welcome. There's always room for improvement.
Plowboy Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 That's a nice looking Impala! The pearl white really pops and the red interior really sets it off! The wheels and tires makes a great final touch! I wish I had waited for this version for the better wheels and engine parts.
espo Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 A beautiful build of a beautiful car. Very cleanly trimmed and the Wheels give it a great look.
Jim B Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 Very nice Impala. I like the white with the red interior.
donb Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 Nice color combo, nice foil, nice wheels, nice interior. Well built model. Excellent all around.
Classicgas Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 Very nice, only thing is with the modern wheels the old generator should have been exchanged for a alternator lol.

Yeah, like I said I'm a total newbie when it comes to GM's. Mopars had alternators starting in '61. I painted the brake rotors black to simulate drum brakes too. The kit comes with some nice rotor decals but no calipers. I thought it would look pretty weird without the calipers.
videocast36 Posted March 8, 2020 Posted March 8, 2020 looks good enough in photos to mistake for the real thing. congratulations on an outstanding result...
Snake45 Posted March 8, 2020 Posted March 8, 2020 Wow, what a clean, sharp build! Well done and model on!
Steamboat Posted March 8, 2020 Author Posted March 8, 2020 Thanks folks, I appreciate the kind words and suggestions.
oldscool Posted March 8, 2020 Posted March 8, 2020 Nice one! White cars with red interiors always look good.
PHPaul Posted March 8, 2020 Posted March 8, 2020 VERY nicely done! Very convincing. The first car I owned on my own was a '62 Impala. It was a 4 door with a 6 cylinder and 3 on the tree which was disappointing at the time but probably wise, if you know what I mean. ? Mine was black with a red interior. You NAILED the interior color!
OldTrucker Posted March 17, 2020 Posted March 17, 2020 Beautiful! Takes me back to better times. My wife's cousin Bennys had one that looked just like it!
