Finished this one in 2015, bought from a friend on Flickr. My mum had a Renault 5 back in the 1980s, but hers certainly wasn't this crazy mid-engined mutant!

Quite simple, and like many early Tamiya and other Japanese kits it was designed to incorporate a motor. No engine and fairly basic suspension, but it nicely captured the look and feel of the real thing.

Wheels came from one of my Japanese kits otherwise it was built OOB, paint was Tamiya TS-19 Metallic Blue (I think).

This is a rare kit to find now. You done a great job, and those wheels really suit it.

Thanks all of you, it was an enjoyable build. Not particularly detailed, but what was there looked 'right'. I'd love to see what someone like Alex (Italianhorses) could do with it. It was great to get it out in the sunlight last weekend, the blue paint looked good.

The wheels seemed appropriate, just like someone would have put on as upgrade back in the day. And it gives me an interesting set of wheels to use on something else in the future!

I was lucky, my friend had owned it for some years but had got out of building them and sold it to me at a good price. I felt I owed him a debt of gratitude so I got round to it quite quickly after receiving it.

Looks great.  I drove one back in the mid 80's.  It was the Turbo II and I just thought it was the coolest thing I had ever driven at that point in my life.  It actually was!

One of my favourite imports ever ! There were at least two of them in the city I grew up in ; that was back in the early 80's .

I've always wanted a stock version in 1/25 ( give-or-take ) scale , but haven't had any luck finding one .

That looks awesome! In fact, I think you just gave me an idea of what to build next!

Thanks, and yay! Look forward to seeing you work your magic on one. You have one in your stash I presume?

Did the mid-engined Turbo reach the States? I know you got the standard 5 (sold as Le Car?).

I also have a normal 5 kit:

Yes , the R5 Turbo was imported to the U.S.  Most of them were "Grey Market" cars : brought up to U.S. specs as far as smog junk and lighting . There's a few "Black Market" versions around as well .

The regular R5 Le Car was sold here as well (plus the R11 , and many others) . I haven't seen one in decades ! Haha !

One of my best friends is a connonoisseur of all things  automobiles Françaises . He has a Peugeot 205 GTI (1986) which is one-of-two in the U.S.

Nice to see one built this well.  I did the Heller last year, was curious to compare.  Good to know these kits are rare, will keep an eye open.

Thanks Kurt. It's a nice kit, I suspect a bit simpler and easier to put together than the Heller version.

I have the Heller Renault 4 and that's not one I'm rushing to start.....

It's a fun, straightforward build and it looks really effective built-up. I'd love to see another one done ?
