TransAmMike Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 (edited) Well, its finally done. I previously posted a few WIP pictures and the little bug is finally done. My first 2 tone paint job. The red is Duplicolor Ford Toreador Red, the Black/Charcoal is Extreme Laquer Blazing Black, which as you can see is anything BUT black. The silver stripe at the belt line was intended to just be the chrome trim foiled but I kept having problems getting it to look right so I just decided to paint the raised part that the trim sits on top of. Doesn't look great but not too bad. I added Weber carbs to the engine and did a little customizing of the exhaust. So here's some pictures Edited November 10, 2020 by TransAmMike duplicate picture
TransAmMike Posted November 10, 2020 Author Posted November 10, 2020 By rhe way, There is no clear coat on the paint. Just liquid medium compound, polishing compound (automotive products) , and old Meguires NXT Tech Wax.
doorsovdoon Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 That's some nice paintwork, the colours work well together too. Nice build.
TransAmMike Posted November 10, 2020 Author Posted November 10, 2020 Thanks about the paint and colors. I was really going for a true Black metallic and red, but since I bought the "blazing black" I went ahead and used it. As for the paint, just a simple rattle can job. Actually first time I used the Duplicolor and Testor paints. Both were applied over Krylon 2 in 1 Automotive filler primer.
espo Posted November 11, 2020 Posted November 11, 2020 I like the paint treatment and the engine looks good.
TransAmMike Posted November 11, 2020 Author Posted November 11, 2020 Thanks Guys. Complements appreciated.?
Koellefornia Kid Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 Nice Bug! I really like the two tone Paint job and the Radir wheels on it!
TransAmMike Posted November 13, 2020 Author Posted November 13, 2020 Thanks Oliver all the way from Germany. Always wanted to go there but now at 75 years old not happening. I love Porsche's and German Shepherd Dogs and my Grandmother (God rest her soul)was born there.
GeeBee Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 Very nice build, I built the Tamiya Beetle a few years ago, it took me ages to get that centre beltline trim done in Bare Metal foil, not the easiest thing to do for sure.
TransAmMike Posted November 13, 2020 Author Posted November 13, 2020 Thanks Jim and Geoff. Yep, That belt line chrome trim is a b****h. Thats why I gave up and just called it a silver stripe. How's my '57 Chevy going Geoff ole Chap???

Stingray wes Posted November 21, 2020 Posted November 21, 2020 Love this! Couldn't have picked two better colors to work together. Excellent work here.
