1956 Pontiac Club De Mer

Ok, so this is one you don't see too often. Revell's Club de Mer kit is definitely from a time when model building was a different thing. I actually really liked this as a fun little build and it was the first time I have actually done figures for a vehicle. The figures were terribly molded and presented some challenge but I look forward to trying more figures in the future.

Beautiful looking finish. I was wondering how you did the multi piece body. The video really shows a lot for someone who hasn't built one of these before. What did you use up inside the wheel wells for masking ? Great idea what ever you used.

For inside the wheel wells I just used kleenex to prevent the silver from going over the inner fender red. Not perfect but kept it pretty clean.

I'm getting the dreaded " this video violates YouTube terms of service "

Yeah, YouTube deemed it inappropriate but it has been fixed.

Amazing how well this old kit turned out, it looks great. I enjoyed the video too, great stuff!

Thanks for watching! I actually enjoy making the videos almost as much as I enjoy making the kits.

Very nice rendition of a rare piece.

I've always felt the scale of this kit may be somewhat under 1/25, but I've never taken the time to research the dimensions of the real one and check.

If you look at photos of the real car and the replica that was made (the original was scraped in 1958 or something) and you can see how bad the scale is on this. Revell cared nothing for scale at this point in their carrier. The hubcaps are laughable, it is missing tons of trim, (yet they put those terrible stars right on a seam line) and those figures are just enormous. It looks OK next to some of my other 1/25 scale stuff until you put those figures in there and then it just looks silly. Clearly this was made at a time when models were created as kids toys more than a serious representation of the original. Still, it was a fun yet challenging build.

Great job on this Spence.  These old kits are really difficult to make given the poor fit of many of the pieces...I say you nailed it!

Yeah, when I first opened the kit my thought was WTF? These pieces don't even fit! But I spent some time going over all the pieces and thinking about how I could make it work. Clearly you had to do the inside first, there really was no way around that so once you got it together, some putty, some sanding and voila. Shame about the side stars, no way I could recoup them and there was no way I was going to try and scratch build them! ?

Magnificent! Straight from the '56 GM Motorama. Very well done.

The guy driving looks like he had a few too many expressos' LOL

Haha, yeah the figures are.... Well, they are anyway. I have never done figures before and these are simply a front and a back. They have huge holes all over and their poses are weird, not even mentioning that I have no idea how to paint faces. Lol.

Truly excellent build. It may even inspire me to build the one I've had hanging around for years. Never imagined it could turn out like that. Great job!

I would love to see more of these built. It is a unique and interesting car.

That's gorgeous. What did you paint it with?

The reds inside are a Vallejo color and some rustoleum spray for the seats. The exterior is Tamiya can primer and then a mix of Tamiya chrome silver and clear blue in a ratio of about 8 to 1. It is clear coated with tamiya ts13.

Hope that helps.

Have the kit but after building the Revell Futura a few years back I still haven't built up the courage to tackle this one. When I do finally put it on the bench the figures will go in the parts box, they are truly horrific.

The figures are pretty bad. lol but I thought that may as well build them to go with the very old kit as well. I don't think I will be displaying it with the figures in it. haha.

Fun fact. The club de met was only 38.5 inches tall. Those figures might not actually be much out of scale!  The driver and passenger actually stuck up out of the car about like those figures ...

really like this build. Makes me want to build my kit ...

It is certainly a small car, no question. I think it is more like the car is 1/25 scale and the figures are 1/24 scale, they are not too far off but they are still slightly too big for the car. Still it was fun painting them. Never done figures before so it was a new experience. I will be doing more for certain.
