My Builds For 2020

Before I joined the forum in July I hadn't build a kit since I was a teen in the early 90's. Over the last six months I've built more than twenty and each one gets a little better than the last, I definitely have you guys to thank for that. You've all helped me to build the models you see here. From tips and tricks, knowledge on trim and colour combos, criticism, and even thread hijacks! xD  This forum is amazing, always good company and I look forward to seeing what everyone has on their workbench for 2021! Merry Christmas, guys, best wishes to you for the new year.

That's a nice collection.  Looks like you never lost your touch.    I really like that 57 Ford and that Merc.   I took a twenty some year hiatus from building back in the late 70s.  Got away from it when kits were getting up to $4.50 USD in the late 70s and figured they were getting entirely too expensive.    I had a couple kits I started back in the early 80s and put them aside. 20 years later I had a place with a spare room and started tinkering with those two kits and I was hooked again.   After I stumbled across this site my builds started looking much better.   I have learned a lot from everyone here.     The internet truly is the best tool for building models.

Congrats Gareth on a very productive and successful six months! The assortment and variety of your builds is impressive and I’m looking forward to seeing more of your work in the New Year. Welcome back to the hobby, cheers Misha

Gareth, you are rocking the showroom stock genre!  What an amazing output and an amazing comeback! I will definitely be looking forward to your work in the future.  I rarely build showroom stock but I really enjoy looking at the work of others in this field - when you know what the real car is meant to look like, showroom stock is a very demanding style to build- if it doesn't look right, it isn't right.  Us hot rodders can do whatever we like and get away with it!

Cheers

Alan

You’ve done very well for someone who hadn’t built in some time! I’ve enjoyed watching your build threads and the banter!

Thanks, Tom. To banter and good times:)

Cheers, Doug. Yeah, similar patern with me. Lost interest in kit building in my teens when I learned to drive, life, kids, work etc, twenty years later the world falls apart and I sudenly have time on my hands and here I am, Lol. If you told me last year I'd be building plastic kits and posting them online I honestly wouldn't have believed you!

That's a very nice selection you've built there, I just wish I could build them that quickly.

Thanks, Geoff. I am starting to take my time a bit more now, my early builds were very quick and dirty.

Thanks mate, I'm chuffed you stuck around and came along for the ride.

A lot of good looking stuff there Gareth?

Thanks, Mike. I just need somewhere to put them now, haha. I think a certain new piece of furniture will be replacing the sideboard next year!

I always enjoy watching your builds. You seem to have a real since of American cars and strive for accuracy.

Thanks, Dave. I've always been fascinated with American iron since I saw a black 1960 Cadillac regularly pass my home when I was about eight years old, it was like seeing a spaceship! This site has definitely inspired me to go the extra mile when it comes to detail.

Wow, I knew you'd rattled through a few but there are some here I'd missed - great to see them all. I particularly like the '70s cars, but that's just my personal taste.

Thanks, Nigel. Yeah, I too love the cars of the 70's. I wish there were more land yacht kits out there, I'm not the only one so hopefully Round2 is listening!

Thanks for sharing! Love seeing all of your builds and my favourite one among all of them is the blue LeSabre!

Thanks, Chang. Yes, one of my favorites too, it's the Electra 225, I think the LeSabre was the base model. I enjoyed this kit so much I did two of them.

Fantastic use of 2020, Gareth!! I’m still loving the TBird! Happy Holidays to you.

Cheers, Chris. Yes, the T-Bird was a big hit, despite how uninspiring it was on openning the box, it turned out to be a real gem that kit!

Thanks, Alan. Yes, it can be difficult to get right, even after researching countless pictures and receiving input from forum members I still get it wrong, haha! I'll definitely be giving a hotrod build a try in the new year.

You've been a busy boy Gareth! When did you do the Peterbilt? What trailer is that?

Indeed! I actually forgot a couple of builds I did until I started gathering pics for this thread, Lol! I did the Peterbilt and trailer about the same time I was building the '57 Fairlane. The trailer is just called "Semi Trailer" by AMT, I know nothing about big rigs so it was good enough for me, Lol. There's more pics in the BigRig completed section of the forum.

Super 2020 for you. That 57 Ford looks awesome when done right. And you have done an exceptional job on it.

Thanks, Donald.
