SpeedShift Posted March 13, 2021 Author Posted March 13, 2021 Thanks guys. Worked on the salt flat wheels discs, glued on Grandt line bolts and applied ALCLAD Aluminum. 1
SpeedShift Posted March 15, 2021 Author Posted March 15, 2021 Made some tubular shocks for the front axle out of aluminum tubing. Polished up pretty good with the LMG kit. 1
SpeedShift Posted March 23, 2021 Author Posted March 23, 2021 Got some front port flathead covers, checking fit of components. 2
Misha Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 (edited) A great build Jim of an iconic roadster! I have always thought of doing one and similar to Alan have been collecting bits and pieces. Seeing your build has spurned me on, even have the Scott blower on order from Norm. This is a challenging build to create a replica and you are very inventive with your solutions and techniques, a real inspiration. Cheers Misha Edited March 24, 2021 by Misha Spellin’
SpeedShift Posted March 27, 2021 Author Posted March 27, 2021 Thanks Misha...you will love Norm's SCOT blower...it is a real beauty.
SpeedShift Posted March 28, 2021 Author Posted March 28, 2021 Mounted tube shocks and applied resin bolt heads. Trial fitting headers over the frame. 1
SpeedShift Posted April 6, 2021 Author Posted April 6, 2021 Found a resin bomber seat I like,,,, from Replicas and Miniatures. Bent brass rod for the seat frame. 1
Tortuga Kustomz Posted April 7, 2021 Posted April 7, 2021 Nice work, i hope you don't mind me saying this but i think is too thick in my opinion, if you can get something a little bit more smaller then that will be more scale accurate, looking forward to see more of this project my fiend...
SpeedShift Posted April 7, 2021 Author Posted April 7, 2021 (edited) I noticed that in the picture...the picture makes the brass rod look ten pounds heavier. I'll have to check my brass rod stash for smaller diameter.... Edited April 7, 2021 by SpeedShift
SpeedShift Posted April 7, 2021 Author Posted April 7, 2021 (edited) Found a smaller diameter brass rod than the 1/16 ".....smallest I have...1/32" dia. Bent a frame in one piece. Here's a comparison. The roll bar looked a bit fat in the picture as well, so I'm going from 3/32" to 1/16 " Edited April 7, 2021 by SpeedShift 1
SpeedShift Posted April 7, 2021 Author Posted April 7, 2021 (edited) Comparing the roll bar in the first try to the replacement . Edited April 7, 2021 by SpeedShift 1
afx Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 Good choice on the roll hoop, 1/16" material works out to approximately 1.6" in scale. More appropriate size IMHO.
Tortuga Kustomz Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 Nice Jim, yes the rool bar looks like that, i normally use evergreen #222 which is 1/16" on my chassis and roll bars, great work by the way this chassis is with 1/16" styrene rods: Is easier to work with 1
SpeedShift Posted April 9, 2021 Author Posted April 9, 2021 Wow...a lot of plastic rod. What glue did you use?

MAGIC MUFFLER Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 Always loved this car..!!!! I too wanted to build this model many years ago. You're doing a great job on this one! I also have pics of the one in the museum glass cabinet somewhere. I'll look for them. ---> ** I used to work with Tony. He always would give me parts from the cars, his old racing clothes, models, books, paper material etc. He wouldn't stop talking about old racing stories when I would work there. BUT, I had the wonderful opportunity to massage the cars when we displayed them out at the CHRR. Here's me giving the car another wipe down for the days event. Always fun getting your hands on these race cars. Looking forward to seeing the finished model. 2
