Refurbishing a Maserati 3500 engine.

I'm not sure if it is worth a thread but here goes anyway. This engine was given to me by fellow member Gary McNutt as part of a stash of old engines. I want to finish it to display. Here's what it looks like unassembled.

challenges

this photo is of the Weber carbed version of said engine  -  the kit engine is fuel injected - which is also correct - choose your poison

you'll have to scratch the distributor - you'll need some  .06 alu or brass tube and lots of patience

plug wire - no bigger than .013 - there is an Ebay store that sells .011 wire in different colors -  Belly tanker has the site on his ...  belly Tanker ... build in the land speed / sports car /racer section

I built that kit last year but I really don't remember what I did for a distributor. I'll check on that and see if I came up with a really clever solution (doubt it, though). In the meantime, good luck with it and I'll be following.

If I have any left, I think it will be Webers like those I put on the Aston.

Built up the distributor and wire conduit. Looking at Greg's photo , I realize the conduit is woefully out of scale.

Those wires wouldn’t have to be run continuous.  You could just make a short collar to accept the 12 wires from the distributor and then a smaller conduit (sprue or evergreen?) extending from that collar.  Drill holes in that conduit just big enough to accept the wire coming from the plugs.

I’m not sure which version you are going for, but if it’s like the pic I posted, you could drill straight through the conduit into the head to allow for some adjustment to the plug wire length.

That was my plan. Run the bunch from the distributor to the mouth of the tube. Then a pair out of each hole to the plugs.

This would be my approach as well.

This should be a very interesting and challenging project. I'm eager to see more.
