TooOld Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 Beautiful ride Ken ! Would love to have one just like that ! 1
Kenmojr Posted August 9, 2022 Author Posted August 9, 2022 Presently building the MPC Flipnose 60 Corvette that I started about 30 years ago. I have about 5 or 6 uncompleted models of 60 Corvettes from MPC and Revell. I really want the old Monogram kit, can't recall if it's a 59 or 60. Little difference between the two other than seats and some other minor interior things.
TransAmMike Posted August 10, 2022 Posted August 10, 2022 Wow Ken, great looking 'Vette and great pictures!!
RSchnell Posted August 10, 2022 Posted August 10, 2022 Nice ride! Nothing beats a C1 in my opinion. I've had a couple over the years. This is last '61 I owned at a NCRS show here in FL back in 2004. Is yours stock mechanically?
Kenmojr Posted August 10, 2022 Author Posted August 10, 2022 (edited) No mine was a former drag racer and the 283 was long gone. At the drag strip I was told it ran a big block Chevy. Not sure if it was a 396, 427 or 454. When I purchased the car, the owner was putting it back on the road. It has a small journal 327, that's the 327 Chevy put a 283 crank into to give birth to a 302 for the Z28. Edlebrock Street Performer intake manifold, Edlebrock 600cfm carb. I replaced the old distributor, points and condenser with a MSD HEI distributor. Exhaust manifolds are the Chevy ram horns. Single cylinder brake cylinder was replace with a Mr Power Brakes dual master cylinder and replaced front drums with ECI disc brake conversion. Old vacuum wiper motor replace with a new multi speed electric motor. It also has a Muncie M21 and 12 bolt GM rear end with 4:11 gears. Your 61 is a beauty and I think I may have seen it posted on the Corvette Forum of which I've been a member for 22 years. Edited August 10, 2022 by Kenmojr 1
RSchnell Posted August 12, 2022 Posted August 12, 2022 Sounds like a nice drivable setup! I sold the '61 in my photo back in 2008. Now that the kids are grown and I'm nearing retirement I'm on the hunt for either a '61 or '62 in either Honduras Maroon, Black, or Fawn Beige. I've never posted over on Corvette Forum, but I do get on there once in a while and read it. There's some pretty knowledgeable folks there! 1
Kenmojr Posted August 12, 2022 Author Posted August 12, 2022 4:11 is great on the hills in downtown Halifax but not suited for the highway.
