Trying to make a tire decision for my '64 Bonneville, so I thought I would throw the question to all of you.

The wide whites wouldn't be standard anymore by 1964, but I sort of like them?

The medium white walls would probably have been the most likely standard tire at this time.

I'm kind of leaning towards the narrow whites?

What do you think?

Thanks guys.

I think that I may have answered my own question.

I forgot about the AMT parts pack Firestones that I had.

I think that they're a little closer to what I was looking for.

A little larger diameter tire than some of the others, but in between the middle and thin whites is closer to what I wanted.

I have to agree with Bill on your last picture. This would have been the more OEM look of the time. The white sidewalls were getting narrower almost every year and by 1966 they were little more than a stripe. Around 1962 there started to be a gap of black rubber showing between the wheel and the white sidewall. Each year this gap of black rubber got wider and wider until 1966 when it would become a mere stripe.

From someone who was there...by 1964 wide or even medium whites were for squares and old fogies although a lot of them were getting recapped as cheater slicks. The fashion on the street was narrow whites. It happened fast. Starting in '62 some cars had the narrows. By the time the 63's hit the new car dealers' lots they were almost all wearing narrows.

BTW, my earlier comment about what was happening in the early 60's was just for the historical record.
