Marc @ MPC Motorsports Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 (edited) I started this one late in 2008 and after seeing David T's beautiful 1971 Charger, I thought I would post some pics of mine. It is painted with Testors Inca Gold with Tamiya TS-13 clear. Spoilers are from the AMT 1971 Dodge Charger R/T. Wheels are Aoshima Kranze LXZ's with black spokes. I removed the bumper guards and drilled out the headlights for MV Lenses. This kit was a NASCAR racer before being converted back to street use. I will use a photoetch tuner-style gas cap where the NASCAR filler once was. All I lack to finish this build is to paint and assemble the interior. Marc Edited July 14, 2009 by Marc @ MPC Motorsports
Harry P. Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 That is really, REALLY cool! I love the color... it works great on that car... and the black wheels against the gold is fantastic! If there was a "thumbs up" icon here I'd give you two of them!
Spike Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 thats one of my dreams cars, except with the SE trim package beautiful build!
mikelo Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Lookin good so far! can't wait to see this one done. Mike
Marc @ MPC Motorsports Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 Needs a flat black hood! but gret work... Thanks, Chris. The power bulge on the hood will most likely end up flat black when it is finished. Marc
LVZ2881 Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Marc...how did you get your TS-13 to look so glossy?? did you polish it, or just empty the can on the body?
sak Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Stellar !!! So far everything thing is perfect. That color is by far my favorite. Don't care how much I see it used. Awesome.
mikelo Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Again, looks great so far. Can I offer a tip? Having owned a couple of these Chargers in full size, one thing that gets me is the tail light treatment. I have seen very few done correctly. I am sure you will be someone who will do it, but I will include a pic of the 1:1 for reference. And yes, I know the kit lights aren't the best, but I know you can make them look good, especially in the pro-tour style.
Marc @ MPC Motorsports Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 Marc...how did you get your TS-13 to look so glossy?? did you polish it, or just empty the can on the body? Yes and yes! I always use most if not all of a can of TS-13 on a body, then I polish with 3600, 4000 and 6000 Micro Mesh and final polish with Wizards Finish Cut polish. Thanks for your comments! Marc
gilsdropshop1 Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 very nice this one came out very clean and i like how you blacked out the rims too, great job

Nick F40 Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 I agree with everyone this looks nice, the color and details are very nice.
Marc @ MPC Motorsports Posted March 30, 2009 Author Posted March 30, 2009 Since I didn't rush to do a simple paint and assembly on the interior for my '74 Charger, the creative juices started flowing again and I'm going more full on custom Pro Touring with it. Lying in the abyss that my workbench has become was a custom rear seat from the AMT '57 Ford Fairlane. I laid it inside the Charger tub, then fired up the Dremel. After removing the rear seat and some minor trimming and filing, it fit like it was made for it. The car is still going to be curbside, but I'm going all out on the inside. As for colors, I'm thinking either multiple shades of black and grey or more of a Ferrari style with tan seats with black dash panel and rugs. Either scheme may get a splash of carbon fiber too. Just got to do some spoon testing to compliment the Inca Gold exterior. Enjoy!!!
Nate Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 (edited) Looks great! As I said at the Showdown, this build has inspired me to buy the AMT 71 Charger kit and built my own Pro-Tourer. I've also heard that the chassis from the AMT kit can be used with the crappy AMT 74 GTX kit so imight need to buy another. Anywho I love the color, the shine and the wheel treatment. beefheart22 Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Your project is killer and that color is solid!

horsepoweraddict Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 You do some nice work Marc!!! this charger is gonna be awesome, looks great so far. I wish it was a fully detailed but I guess I'll have to settle for a curbside. It's still gonna great, keep up the good work.
Jantrix Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 This is looking fantastic. It looks fast when it's standing still.
Marc @ MPC Motorsports Posted July 14, 2009 Author Posted July 14, 2009 I have the week off from work, the first whole week since last August. Mrs. MPC is working this week so I can pretty much do what I want to this week. That said, I found the bench!!! I made a vow to myself to finish several "works in process" before returning to the vault with something new. First up is the MPC '74 Charger. A curbside build, it is nearly complete except for the interior. But after tonight, it too is nearly complete. The seats are the custom units found in the AMT '57 Ford Fairlane kit. I added a strip of .040" half round Evergreen to the door panels and covered the wood grain patterns with .010" styrene painted with Testors Fabric Tan. Rest of the interior is Tamiya TS-82 Rubber Black and AS-15 Tan. Tomorrow, I will paint the seat inserts with the Fabric Tan. The dash pad will be painted black with the lower dash tan. Gauge cluster, insert on passenger side of dash, and top of console will be painted aluminum. Just wanted to do something a little different than all black or dark grey. Once I button this one up, I think I'll move on to the '66 Mercury Cyclone or go way back to the Year One '66 Mustang FB. Or maybe both? What do you think? Marc @ MPC Motorsports
caine440 Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Very Very Nice ! I am thinking down the road to do a simple copy of the Charger used on the TV show Burn Notice. Caine 440
