my name is nobody Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 pulled this out of the pile and slapped it together. AMT 1/25 scale 1975 AMC Matador:
dwc43 Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 Nice. I Just started on one of them last night. It's going to take some work to get it to look correct as you have already found out. The roll cage in that thing is awful. If I can't find a decent donor, I'm going to build one from scratch. What paint did you use for the Red,White, and Blue ?
roadhawg Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 Very nice, and great job on the paint! Thats one of my favorite Nascar racers ever. I built it myself a few years back as the "press release" car, which didn't have the Coke sponsorship yet and had the full size quarter windows....... dwc43, IIRC, the paint is just plain ol' Testors gloss red and gloss blue.
dwc43 Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 dwc43, IIRC, the paint is just plain ol' Testors gloss red and gloss blue. Thanks. I'm going to try and do both the Allison and Cam 2 cars. I'm going to try and make them look better than a straight box build though. They could have done a better job on these kits when they made them. I used to have one of these cars too. It was a '74 with a 401 big block, A727 Chry. trans and a Dana 60 rear with 4:11 gears. IT was black with black interior. Sure was ugly, but man that thing would fly and it handled pretty good too.
Slim Louis Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Very nice looking builds, both of them! Could use some more construction details, please, CJ!
my name is nobody Posted August 26, 2009 Author Posted August 26, 2009 Could use some more construction details, please, CJ! Not anything special. just a box stock build up of an old AMT kit. Nothing added, and all that was taken away was a bunch of chrome. The wheels were stripped, and painted with embrol aluminum. drilled out the exhaust pipes, and used a metalizer paint on them. Masking and painting the body was pretty straight forward, and I used some plastickote paint from a can. The decals were extremely fragile, due to their age I suppose, fortunately, only one broke during application, and it was an easy fix. Yeah, it has a generic suspension, and the rollcage requires patience, But it builds up into a nice display piece. This was a kit I got tired of looking at, wondering how it would look. so, I built it up. Thanks for asking.
Slim Louis Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Thanks for the reply, Chuck, I too have two of these kits sitting on my shelf I'm tired of looking at. Thought about building one on a Monagram T-Bird chassis, and go from there. No tellin' when I'll ever get to it!
voljeepx Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Love the old Matadors! You have done a great job on it!
Guest Johnny Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Thanks for the reply, Chuck, I too have two of these kits sitting on my shelf I'm tired of looking at. Thought about building one on a Monagram T-Bird chassis, and go from there. No tellin' when I'll ever get to it! That is what I have decided on doing to get a more accurate looking chassis and cage! I have seen several built that way and ordered a donor kit to use.
