Jim B Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 (edited) Well, I've been working on this for a little while now; so I figured I'd post some WIP pics. I have the frame & suspension done & tank assembled. My plan is to plum the brake lines. We'll see how that goes. Anyway, that's where I am so far. Edited June 8, 2010 by Jim B
cowboysevens Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 that will definately do the job, what color ya gonna paint it jim?
toplessfury Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 i used to build tanks similar to that.they were a pain in the rear.i hated it cause i found out that i was closterfobic.
Kostas Parchas Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Jim, you are of to a good start (if its not done yet!) LOL Kostas.
Jim B Posted August 6, 2010 Author Posted August 6, 2010 Here are the latest in progress pics for my 1975 Fruehauf Tank Trailer. As you can see I managed to get some paint on the tank & frame, and I plumbed the brake lines. First time doing that. It was interesting. I decided to go without the spare tire carrier as most fuel tankers don't have one. Enjoy.
Kostas Parchas Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Jim, Looking good... Are you planing the texaco decals? Kostas.
Jim B Posted September 26, 2010 Author Posted September 26, 2010 So, I managed to get all the decals on the tank, the brake lines finished, and the discharge pipes on. It's not much, but it's something. I'm hoping to have some time in the next couple of weeks to finish this up.
Jim B Posted September 26, 2010 Author Posted September 26, 2010 Thanks. Took me a while to figure out how to secure them to the front of the tank and have it look "realistic".
cowboysevens Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 thats a nice biuld, what ya gonna have pullin it? dennis
Jim B Posted September 26, 2010 Author Posted September 26, 2010 Thanks. As of now, my snap Kenworth W900 will be hooked to it. That might change later.
SpreadAxle Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 Jim, how did you secure the lines to the nose of the trailer? I some tankers to build and have tried to find a way to do it where the clamps look in scale like yours. I haven't been sure, how, though.
Jim B Posted September 27, 2010 Author Posted September 27, 2010 Ray, What I did was took some aluminum flashing and cut a REALLY think strip (which curled up on itself). After I straightened it out, I formed the "bump" of the clamp over a micro drill the same size as the #30 wire I used. Then I cut the "tabs" to size, and super glued it to the front of the tank securing the hose.
Kostas Parchas Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Jim, Your tanker is very nice! Kostas.
clayton Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 if the new kits are chrome how does one go about gluing the two half's to together with out messing up the chrome???
Old Albion Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Jim, This is a great looking trailer. I like it! I think it would look good behind any truck. Dave
B_A_R Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 An old school favorite of mine. Anyone have a photo of the real thing?
Jim B Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 Every time I touch this trailer something falls off! Today was no exception. I was working on adding the outlet valves, and as i was trying to fit one on I heard a SNAP. The fricken' tank came off!!! I could not beleive it. The only thing holding it on is the air lines. Even the outlet piping fell off. What a nightmare. I'll be glad when I can finialy put this one on the shelf. Of course, it might never make it to the shelf because when I pick it up to move it to the shelf something will break off. AAGGGHHHHH!
