Buick GNX road racer

I am building this GNX from the Revell high-performance kit. The fender flares were in the kit, the hood is a resin piece of ebay. I have to grind off a brace in the under-hood compartment to get it to fit though. I am still trying to decide whether to paint the car flat black, semi-gloss, or gloss black. It has to be black though. These cars just don't look the same in any other color.

I made the rear spoiler slightly larger with strip styrene and bondo.

In order to fit the wheels and tires, I had to enlarge the rear wells. However, the design of the chassis made that rather hard so cut off the rear trunk pan and fuel tank and replaced it with my own modified one. I still need to add a fuel cell and the rest of the frame. Here is my progress so far on the frame.

This is my wheel and tire package. I don't know where the wheels are from. I modified the rears to fit in 23" pegasus sleeves with perelli tires.

Thanks for the reference pics. Those are great. One problem I am going to have is the vents on the front quarter panels. The ones in the kit are just glue-on pieces that don't look that great. I tried using a dremel to cut out vents on a spare hood but it is really hard to do. I will have to come up with something.

I got a little more done tonight. I finished up the rear frame. I now have to fit the rear axle and suspension setup in. I also need to construct a fuel cell.

I didn't like the rear bench seat but I also did not want to remove it. The seat looked too dated and I want this to look like a nicely resto-modded GNX. I wanted to leave the rear seat in because I don't want this to be a race-only car despite the title :). I took some extra buckets from an SRT, cut them up a little, and fit them into the back. Unfortunately, I had to cut away some of the seats to get them to fit around the rear tubs. :D Have to fix that somehow.

I am thinking of doing some carbon fiber on the body. Don't know how much yet though. Here are some ideas I have.

Gloss black with

-a carbon fiber racing stripe up 1 side

-carbon fiber hood

-carbon fiber front splitter

-carbon fiber on the duck tail spoiler

-carbon fiber on the fender flares

Just a few ideas. I am definitely going to do the front splitter and possibly the rear spoiler. I am leaning towards the single stripe up one side right now though.

Thanks for the very helpful tip. I will check it out.

I few more progress pics.

Here is a sneak peak of the engine and turbo as well as the tranny. Switching out the stock for a 5-speed. I just have to find tubing big enough for it. :D

I figured it would be a good idea to try to get some more cold air onto the intercooler and radiator so I carved out the rectangles in the front fascia where the turn signal lights go.

I finished up the frame and made a fuel cell. I just need to pain the frame and chassis.

Finished the intercooler up today. It is scratchbuilt. The extenders on the sides are to direct airflow coming in from the two intake holed I opened up in the front frascia. The dual fans are from a Revell dodge Viper kit.

I also painted up the turbo, rear axle, and radiator.
