Lownslow Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 i hate pickups not hate but for some reason cant bring myself to completing one, it was basically the same for this project i got stuck with a pickup but didnt want to build it and since it was a lindberg with opening doors it was close to finding its way to the garbage. then i remembered flintstone had this same van a fellow CC member got me the body and its been on its way off the bench since. finding wheels that would look cool has been a nightmare since i want to keep the 70s van look with a more modern paintjob. original ideal wheels were right but tires werent perfect original color idea was to have flames down the sides but the decals i had did not lay down well at all even after the right preparations new idea, i used 1/8th of paint and got 7 coats out of it with a neat magic trick i call the jersey dip.
Deathgoblin Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Looking really good! I used to drive one of those vans. slant six and 3 on the tree. Ran like a champ!
FASTBACK340 Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 What a coincidence.... just this morning in the basement I found a box with a few resin bodies in it. An A-100 van was in there. Great color choice for it. But I think it looks better without the white letter tires, but that's just me.
Sixx Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Looking really good! I used to drive one of those vans. slant six and 3 on the tree. Ran like a champ! I would love to have a real one!! Those are cool looking

Lownslow Posted October 30, 2011 Author Posted October 30, 2011 Looking good - what's a jersey dip? a way of cutting nailpolish down without using too much. basically 1 part nailpolish to 4 parts HOK intercoat.
Foxer Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 That looks good ... wheels are giving a nice stance. I'm assuming the Little Red Wagon is supplying the running gear and chassis? Since I've just started an A-100 (pickup!) this got me like a deer in your headlights.
FASTBACK340 Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 He's going for a 70's vibe ,and rwl is a big part of that Got `cha..... although I lived through that era myself and I didn't care for it then either! Cool van either way. I have one and am looking forward to building it now!
spkgibson Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I personally would raise the rear up alittle more, And use some big and little aluminum slots on it for wheels, with some funky pinstripes, Thats how alot of those vans were made up like back then. Cool project,I'll be watching.
walt francis Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 This is going to be a really cool project and I can't wait to see your final stance on this with those wheels and what is HOK intercoat?
Guest Johnny Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Had the Ford version back in the day! ad to get the butt way up to clear the N50 Mickeys on 10" US aluminum slots! Had to use 5" wides on the front though for clearance unless I wanted to block the front axle and do some alteration to the steering!
Lownslow Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 im pretty sure i just ruined it i wanna redo the border color what you guys suggest black or????
John Teresi Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Silken......that`s wild man.......very cool paint and graphics.

Dr. Cranky Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Love the murals . . . I think you did a nice job.
Lownslow Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 i managed to salvage the murals then i cleared the truck needs another coat for sure
Dr. Cranky Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 That's looking real good. I like the color.
Dominik Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 What a coincidence.... just this morning in the basement I found a box with a few resin bodies in it. An A-100 van was in there. Thats crazy...just finished mine these days. If you do not mind...a picture from it Absolut stock version. Your color is a "burner", Did you have many work on the body before painting? It looks like a quirk on the left panel under the coat? I had sanded mine more times, primed, fatted and so one, until I was convinced by the results...
High octane Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 That van looks cool and the paint and murals are just right. I kinda like Johnny's idea of using the aluminum slot wheels as I think that it would look better IMHO. I have one of those van bodies in my stash, but I just may use it to haul a trailer with a drag car on it???
