realgone58 Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 (edited) Another one of my "redone" promos. These 4 door Comet promos are usually expensive, and very warped. This one was a recent score from the Bay, and the warping is minimal compared to most. I simply took it apart, cleaned it up, did some interior detailing, sprayed the roof black, buffed out the factory silver, and added some blackwash and BMF. Something different. Color is Cloud Silver metallic, the metallic is there, just doesn't show up well in pics. Edited October 31, 2012 by realgone58
Scuderia Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 That sure is pretty! I wasn't around when cars like this roamed the land on a regular but they sure do look great. Nice job restoring and enhancing this one!
Renegade Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Great save. Had a couple of 64's, my first cars.
Sixties Sam Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Great job on the Comet! Nice to see such an unusual subject, and in a four door body. Nice score, and great restoration! Sam
charlie8575 Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Beautifully done. That's one model I would be happy to see in resin. Charlie Larkin
Erik Smith Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Great looking resto. I am always afraid of buying those pre-1961 (or so) promos - so warped! Yours looks fantastic.
Dr. Cranky Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 That's a model seldom seen, and you did a great job with it. Thanks for sharing.
Guest Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Sweet! Back in the mid 60's, between 64 and 66 my parents had a black one with if I remember correctly a red interior. I'd love to get ahold of one of these to replicate it. Way cool. What Ford body style was the same? Also, didnt this exact look carry over to 61?
oldnslow Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 OOUUHH! Lots of memories, had a 61 2 dr in high school, red with red and white interior. It was indestructible, looking back I know I tried, 144 automatic, I'd take it around back of the gym and do a high RPM drop into low to spin the tires. I have a couple of these, now I'm going to have to build one. Nice looking car Alan. Robert
H.A.K Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Not a fan of that car......But thats nice man. Great job.
geemoney Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 too cool! nice build! i have like 2 2 dr bodies, not sure what to do with them! i have a 1:1 sedan delivery that is currently motorless! (sad)
Guest Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 This build is really cool! Definitely something that you rarely see. I really like these '60s Comets! I have a '61 that I'm turning into a full detail build using the Revell '64 Fairlane and just bought another one to build as a curbside. Great restoration Alan! Sweet! Back in the mid 60's, between 64 and 66 my parents had a black one with if I remember correctly a red interior. I'd love to get ahold of one of these to replicate it. Way cool. What Ford body style was the same? Also, didnt this exact look carry over to 61? The Fairlane is Ford's sister to the Comet. The grille is different between the '60 and '61.
Chuck Doan Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Nice! I had a promo when I was a kid, maybe in a lightish green. I thought the Comet and the Falcon were the same car?
sjordan2 Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Very nicely done. My Dad had a red 1960 like this one, and though it was underpowered, the rear end often got squirrelly. But it had unusually positive steering for the time.
robertw Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 The first car I ever bought with my own money was a 1961 Comet. It was white with the clear vinyl seat covers. Your model brings back memories.....very...very old memories. Well done.
realgone58 Posted November 2, 2012 Author Posted November 2, 2012 Thanks guys! Glad I could bring back lots of memories with the ole' Comet. The Ford version would be the Falcon. I always thought the Comet looked way more proportioned, due to the different quarter panel stampings and not so rounded off front fenders. '62 through '65 Ford Fairlane was represented at Mercury as the Meteor. Comet and Fairlane were'nt the same deal until '66.
slusher Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Really good looking build, l like it. remember seeing them sitting parked on my way to school...
