Furiousgeorge Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Hello, I've owned four early 80's Dodge Rams, and would like to do a before and after of my current '83 Prospector. I thought I had seen some time ago a conversion kit or a stand alone kit for this? I searched but came up empty. Any help is greatly appreciated!
jeffs396 Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Can't recall ever seeing any Trent, I'd be interested in an early eighties Dodge myself Converting a mid-seventies MPC pickup is possible, but not exactly easy...
pyrophoenix83 Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 i have an 83 i am also looking for an early 80s truck im currently messing around with the little red express truck kit. i do have a custom bed made for it i will try and get pics when its all done im doing a 4x4 w150 from the 80s
Aaronw Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 There was a resin conversion at one time for (I believe) an 81-82. I'm assuming it was based on the Monogram Ramcharger but that is just a guess I don't really know for sure. It was a grill, hood and vent section (between the hood and windshield). Not sure if that is the extent required for a proper conversion from the LRE kit, but it looked like an early 80s Dodge to me.
gray07 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I know there was someone on the offroad model site thinking of making a resin one, he had me measure my 89 dodge extended cab truck front to back and evereything in between, i hope he still working on it.
Rob Hall Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 The last annual that MPC did was the '80, which is pretty much the same as the '79 kit. Quad rectangular lights, 4x4 stepside IIRC.
gray07 Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 (edited) 81 to 92 is pretty much the same truck, they just changed the grille, ive had alot of these trucks, also my friend has 16 of them sitting on his farm Edited December 5, 2013 by gray07
Furiousgeorge Posted December 9, 2013 Author Posted December 9, 2013 This is my fourth. I've had an '81 through to '84. Just can't seem to go to long without one on the driveway! The last one I built was a 360 4 spd, got around 325 hp from it. The truck was built to cruise, so it spun around 1800 rpm at 100 kph, but when I wanted to pass, I was gone! At least parts are still fairly easy to find, unlike my '48 Dodge 1/2 ton. That's a much tougher unit to get going on!
Randytheroadrunner Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 The body sides on the '81-'93 are completely different.
heepey Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 (edited) The MPC Dodge pickup kits are some I would sure like to see reissued. They would be a good base for resin modifications and updates. Edited December 18, 2013 by heepey
Revstew Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 http://offroadmodels.proboards.com/ I tried looking around this board to see about finding a Dodge conversion kit. So you remember what heading it was under?

He has a lot of different bodies but should note that none of them come with interior, chassis, wheels or drive train. Very nicely done renditions and the only game in town. Might want to contact the seller and see if these will be available again and which configuration.

Casey Posted June 29, 2021 Posted June 29, 2021 All good, just didn't want anyone to be confused. I think the 1/25 scale version was posted on the forum previously, but it may have been a few years ago. A '72-'80 version would be most welcome in 1/16 scale. I'll have to look through previous offerings, but I like the idea of upscaling 1/25 kits to 1/16, and it seems to work especially well with pickups, given the separate cab and bed, and keeping in mind 3D print bed size limitations.
Casey Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 Looks like the 1/25 scale cab and bed are back, with grilles for 1981, 1987, and 1993 versions: https://www.ebay.com/itm/284376343384?hash=item423626a358:g:fA0AAOSwwUpg9K6w
Casey Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 Not sure how successful one would be attempting to polish that 3D printed "clear" (rather cloudy, actually) "glass" windshield, either. If the MPC '78 piece fits, no worries, though.
Jordan White Posted June 25, 2022 Posted June 25, 2022 These parts aren’t currently available on eBay, is there someone else making the resin grilles for the 80s/early 90s Dodge pickups?
mikemodeler Posted June 26, 2022 Posted June 26, 2022 I would try contacting Robert Burns on his FB page- Too Many Projects- and see if he can print those grilles you are looking for. I haven't seen anyone else offering them.
