Ramfins59 Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 This was a quick and easy build of an American Metal Collection diecast kit by Classic Metal Works. About 80% of the parts were plastic that either snapped in place or had to be glued. I wound up gluing almost all of them anyway just to be safe. Aside from the engine compartment details that I added (pre-wired distr., heater hoses, resin master cylinder & brake line, battery cables & PE radiator cap), I flocked the carpet black and painted parts of the interior white. The dashboard, wheels and hood and trunk emblems got a blackwash with the Detailer and I gave the convertible boot a couple of coats of dullcoat. The rear license plate is from my stash. This kit turned out really nice and is a good start to the "Class of '55". I previously built a mild custom '55 Chevy (about 15 years ago). Thanks for looking in on this build. Now to pick another one out of the pile.
Tom Geiger Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Lookin' good Rich! Another one off the bench and onto the shelf... what's next?
Porscheman Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Beautiful job on this one Rich. I wonder if you take the roof off the AMT 55 chevy and put it on this, if you can make a coupe?
Ramfins59 Posted September 27, 2013 Author Posted September 27, 2013 Thanks guys. Tom, I don't know what's next yet. Tomorrow I'll be picking up some CA glue debonder so maybe I'll get back to the Nomad. Al, this kit is 1/26 scale, just slightly smaller than 1/25 so I don't think the roof from the chevy would fit right without some extra work on it.
slusher Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 A real beauty Rich, and real nice detail. All your builds are detailed and sharp...
peekay Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Very nicely done Richard! All your refiements really make the model pop.I've got a 58 Impala from Classic Metal Works nearly finished.
rocklandrambler Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Beautiful job on this one Rich. I wonder if you take the roof off the AMT 55 chevy and put it on this, if you can make a coupe? Even if they were the same scale I don't think the Chevy roof would work since the Olds had a 4" longer wheelbase than the Chevy which would make the roof too short. If this Olds is a 98 model then the wheelbase would be 8" longer than the Chevy. This model looks just fine the way it is.
Sixties Sam Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Another 1950's beauty, Rich! Nice work! Sam
Ramfins59 Posted September 28, 2013 Author Posted September 28, 2013 Thanks very much for all your kind words everyone, I really appreciate it. Hey Mike, glad to see that you finally joined the Forum. Welcome aboard buddy. Now you've got to start building models again.
Harry P. Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 You gave the convertible boot several coats of Dullcote and it's still shiny???
mnwildpunk Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 I have always loved the Oldsmobile and Pontiac's of these years much more then the tri-five Chevys and you did an amazing job on this one!!!
Ramfins59 Posted September 28, 2013 Author Posted September 28, 2013 Thanks Dave. Harry, you should have seen how much shinier it was before the dullcoat.
Chris White Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 you never stop impressing, great work
