GMP440 Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Does anyone know where to get Ambroid Pro Weld? None of the hobby shops here carry it.
Harry P. Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 I did a google search and found these. http://www.thathobbyplace.com/ambroid-pro-weld-plastic-welder-2o2.html http://www.hiawathahobbies.com/Ambroid-ProWeld-Plastic-Welder-Liquid-Glue--2oz_p_9151.html http://www.squadron.com/Ambroid-Pro-Weld-AMB110-p/amb110.htm
my80malibu Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 (edited) Where do you live? I posted a topic a few months back asking how others had gotten their model supplies. In far away locations most said they have a hobby shop nearby. Edited June 5, 2014 by my80malibu
935k3 Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 (edited) There is something going on with this company. No of my 3 local shops that carry it can get it anymore. I highly doubt the links posted above have it in stock. A good alternative is Plastruct Bondene Edited June 6, 2014 by 935k3
cmfowler Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 According to my LHS the company only produces it a couple times a year with it currently being out of production.
JohnU Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Thought I read somewhere on this forum someone using MEK (methel Ethel keytone) as a substitute. Suppose to be the same thing and 10x cheaper available in hardware stores.
george 53 Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Model Cave, In Ypsilanti(?) Mich, has it. I just got 4 bottles from John. He has it in stock. PLUS itsa GREAT shop to visit.
Kit Basher Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 You're right, it can be hard to get. My LHS had Ambroid, then Tenax, then Bondene, and now Ambroid again. FWIW, Ambroid is not the same as MEK. It is methylene chloride, and IMO is stronger and faster than MEK. I agree with Dale that Bondene is a good alternative.
Brett Barrow Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Ambroid hasn't been in distribution for a while. Flex-I-file makes an alternative that's supposed to be the same stuff.
crazyjim Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 (edited) I haven't used it, but I'm told MEK is REALLY nasty stuff and must be used in a well ventilated area. Hey George53 - how you been? I waved to you when we flew into Detroit last month. Edited June 6, 2014 by crazyjim
