Old Buckaroo
That looks much better with the tank closer to the cab and the removal of the Alcoa's ! Nice 5th wheel Plate Edited January 15, 2015 by Old Buckaroo
kilrathy10
Excellent work, my friend....Great idea on the wet tank mounting....The wheels and tires look pretty good, too....
Superpeterbilt
Thanks a lot guys. I started building the 3406, and Im going to have to shoe horn it in. Im going to have to move the firewall back, because without extending the hood its not going to fit. No turning back now! I added bolts the the 5th wheel plate and wet tank Stock air cleaner swapped for a Farr I mounted the trailer mudflaps on chains
Superpeterbilt
I modified a telescopic magnet retreval tool into a hydraulic ram. First step, carefully take it apart. Each section is held in place by two brass shims. These shims are dimpled and held in place by drilled holes. Figure out how long it will need to be and mark each piece. I marked how much I needed to cut off and drilled new holes near the new trimmed end.*Important! Drill new holes before cutting to legnth. Next step, with a cut off wheel on a dremel, cut to length. Then, with a small file and exacto knife, debur and clean up cut ends. Then start carefully reassembling it. Stick sized pieces back in side the larger piece, holding the brass shims in place until pressed back inside. . It will be attatched at both ends eventually. Petetrucker07
Very nice work. I need to get a few pete snappers just for parts, well, the motor mainly. Excellent job on the ram!
Tesla
A lot accomplished since I last checked. That tailgate mod looks good and the ram idea is great. Keep up the awesome work Terry
gotnitro?
Excellent build so far! Bashing parts from other kits gives this truck a unique look. Great idea for the telescopic ram! I used an old radio antenna found in the cellar for mine..nothing beats real metal
Old Buckaroo
The chains are super ! I always wondered how those telescoping things (magnets / antennas ) worked . Great idea .
Mopar - D
Wow great work. Great idea on the telescope and the chain on the mud flaps. What did you end doing to shoehorn you engine in. Did you just modify the firewall ?
Superpeterbilt
Wow great work. Great idea on the telescope and the chain on the mud flaps. What did you end doing to shoehorn you engine in. Did you just modify the firewall ? I havent gotten that far yet, its just sitting on the radiator support. Im going to remove the firewall and mount the engine, and then see where I need to go from there. I would estimate about .250 back from where it is. I should just extend the hood, but Im trying to avoid any cosmetic work. I wanted to knock this out in decent time, the last thing I need is another long term project. My shelves are full of those! I think Im going to cut out the grill and put in some PE mesh. Ill get back on it tonight. I want to have this rig ready when the paint gets here. Superpeterbilt
So, I put the engine in the proper place, and marked where the firewall needed to be. Before Firewall cut out New firewall More updates tomorrow

Superpeterbilt
Not a huge update, but I cut out the grill. I tried to save the two center bars, but they broke. I also did some work to the hydraulic ram. I sanded the putty on the trailer, and hope to have it in primer tomorrow.
kilrathy10
Excellent work on that ram....That's a great idea......I had been looking for something to use for that....I had thought about those, but didn't have any idea how they worked.....I figured if I took it apart, I'd just break it.....I don't know why I didn't just shell out the $2 and just see what I could see, but you've done the grunt work for me.....Thanks a lot, Man.....This is a good tip.....Gonna get to work on one for mine, soon...... Thanks JT, glad I could help. I grabbed a hanfull of these things from the Hardware store about ten years ago. I didnt know how I was going to make it work, but I knew I could use it. Then just recently I figured Id give it a go. Mostly because somehow I ended up with more dump trailers, than rams. Now they will all be replaced with this setup.
