Removing Layering from 3D Printed Bodies.
Kayma367 replied to Kayma367's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thank you all for your responses and the education on using the correct verbiage (title line has been updated for posterity sake). I'll milk being out of the loop for 20-something years until I can find another excuse. Looks like Mr. Surfacer is the way to go and I promise my next project will be a plastic kit that will go together without the extra hassle. John -

I'm in need of some guidance from those more in the know. I'm jumping back into the hobby after a 24-year lapse and decided to start with a 3D printed kit of about 40 pieces. I thought it would be an easy project to ease myself back in, but my perfectionist side has me puzzled. On some of the curved upper surfaces, namely the leading edges of both the hood and roof where it meets the top of the windshield, I have striations that are noticeable through the primer (see photo). My questions: 1.) is this something that can be sanded out without ghosting back; 2.) is this something that can be fixed with a filler primer and more sanding; 3.) is this something that can be fixed using a little bit if putty/glaze and more sanding? Apologies if this has been asked and answered before, I did a search but couldn't find anything this specific. I'm using Tamiya paints exclusively and don't want to ruin what I've already prepped by using another product that might not react well with either the paint or the 3D resin. I'm not looking for a glass-like surface, but a smoother surface to paint would be a nice start. Please let me know your thoughts and thank you in advance! John

Michael... I'm hoping you also create the base pie tin hubcaps that were used during the mid-1970's (see attached picture). They are not specific to the 1979 that you are working on, but would be a plus for those of us building police car replicas from the era. I'm sure there are better pics on the internet, but this will give you a flavor of what I'm talking about. John

Thanks for asking, Luc... I don't mind if I do! Two for the 2015-2023 Dodge Challenger (now that Diolex Productions is offering parts to update the AMT kit). And one for a Dodge Durango Pursuit. John

Odds & Ends you'd Like to See

I would like to see a trans kit for the 2008 Dodge Challenger, so I can finally build a 2015 and up version. I know Clearly Scale did a kit a few years back (front and rear facias, hood, interior, etc. IIRC), but it seems this got lost in the shuffle when CS folded and Model Builder's Warehouse took over the line. This is not a dig, it may not be viable for the current business model, but with the Challenger going away and there bring endless trim levels to model, I think a case can be made for an enterprising 3D artist to sell a ton of these. Appropriate facias and hoods (T/A, Hellcat, Widebody) and wheels to round it all out. Everything you need to update the 2008 in one complete package. -
4 door 1967 Impala questions

Canuck3D Model Parts offers a "Non-SS" conversion kit that includes the base grill, correct front set and full wheel covers for $25.00. Here's the link to the website: Canuck3d - Wylde.ca I've ordered from Wylde several times and have not been disappointed. The shipping from Canada is reasonable as well. You might also try George Bojaciuk, a member here on the forum. George is the US arm of the business and may have these in stock. I've dealt with George as well and have had no issues. Buy with confidence from either! -
Dead ringer of a model! See you next month!

Nicely done, Tom... as always. April in NJ? I hope to see you there!

Since the sizing is already figured out, I'd like to throw out yet another single headlight grill option which looks to be from 1988 through 1991. I'll be selfish and say it is for a '88 Chevy Suburban 2500 project I'm noodling around, but this would round out the rest of the "square body" versions you know have available. I'll be buying a few if they become available.

Thank you for filling in the blanks, Dan... perhaps the 5500 chassis cab could be the next version in the A&N lineup. I'd spring for that one in a heartbeat!
-
Now that the 3500 is available, might I suggest some "Related Products" that will cover the rest of the HD truck line. Cummins 6.7 diesel kit, 4500/5500 upgrade kit (fender flares and PE markings for hood), and 2-wheel drive front suspension upgrade kit. Just selfishly putting it out there (see LACoFD Squad pic above) to see if I can get any traction from anyone else.

Regarding the underhood decals, I know that Rays Kits (https://rayskits.com/decals/) offers several Dodge sheets (not Coronet-specific) that might be of use. I've ordered several times from Ray (echoxrayniner here on the board) and his stuff is top notch. The next printing deadline is tomorrow the 19th, so you might be able to get in under the wire and order. The underhood decals on the 1:1s are basically the same, so I'm thinking the 1969 Charger set would do the trick. Great job as always, Steve... I'm a Mopar guy through and through, but I truly appreciate your talent regardless of the subject you're modeling. John

Truly appreciate the questions and what you folks are doing! Personally, I would love to see a 4500 cab and chassis so I could finally create an updated Los Angeles County Squad. I believe the emergency apparatus guys would go nuts over that one!
