The Chevy is a donor kit from which I took the trunk section with the fuel tank and spare tire for my Rambler Wagon project. For Chevy, I took parts from an Edsel.
-
Favorite Bel Air is back. Edsel interior is installed and the Hurst shifter is now on the floor. The chassis is almost complete and awaits the axles and exhaust pipes. Next body painting: two tone color with black roof.
-
Thanks Dan.
-
The engine is almost finished, but the valve covers need to be repainted when the Revell Chrome spray wears off. The engine compartment had to be made more room by removing the radiator wall and it will be installed in a suitable place later.
-
This Chevy was originally bought as a donor kit, but most of the parts were left unused, so I decided to make it a model with some modifications. I tested some paints for my Rambler '59 project and the Chevy looked so special that this two tone paint can stay on the model. The gas tank and spare tire cover have been taken from the chassis , and the new ones were obtained from the '58 Edsel Pacer kit. There are some changes in the engine and some may recognize which V8 it is. The seats in the interior also went to the Rambler, so the Edsel gets to give its interior to this one. Only the dashboard was left of the Chevy.

Rambler American Dog Dish Caps
Sportabout replied to Sportabout's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have Modelhaus Rambler '66 hubcaps but they are not exactly the same as in the picture. You could make Foil copies of them and cut the middle parts as dog dishes. I don't know exactly how to make foil copies from hubcaps. They should be made like this. -
Can it be found in any kits or does anyone make dog dish caps according to the picture? They have been on 60s Rambler Americans.
-
Thanks to everyone for the encouraging comments. My next project will be '29 Ford Tudor with AMC 304 + T10 ?
-
Thanks. I know no one would do this to a real car, but scale models have no limitations.
-
This project is now complete. The Impala was fun to build even though a few parts needed work to fit. The AMC 258 fit quite well, only the radiator had to be moved forward. The WIP topic can be found here https://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/189168-64-chevy-impala-ss-inline-6/ This is not my best model but criticism, sarcasm and other comments are welcome...

Firestone white wall tires needed
Sportabout replied to Sportabout's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks. Tires look good. Need to study them more closely. -
I need Firestone 6.70-15 and 8.20-15 white wall tires. Modelhaus tires does have not them and I don't know where to find them. Tires should be like this https://www.cokertire.com/tires/670-15-firestone-2-11-16-whitewall-tire.html and https://www.cokertire.com/tires/820-15-firestone-3-1-2-whitewall-tire.html

The body has been painted and weathered. The clear coat is Future + X21 matte and the foiling is bare metal matte Aluminum foil. The engine room is almost ready and a few body parts still need to be installed. This kit had heater only originally, so I added with aftermarket air conditioning like people can do with real Impala.
-
The body is now painted and it turned out pretty well. When it has dried properly, I polish it lightly and add some weathering.
-
The heater hoses have been installed and it wasn't an easy job. It's probably better to install the radiator wall and radiator hoses with the frame on. The interior is also almost ready, although I lost the shifter and had to make a new one. The trunk has been flocked and changed to be more original. The color of the body will be Tamiya X-7, painted and finished barn find style.
-
The engine and fuel lines are in place. Next I will install the AC hoses and the heater hoses. The exhaust pipe of the kit fit as is, but the driveshaft had to be modified. Radiator wall and radiator have been painted, fitted and waiting for installation.
-
Those GM engines don't meet my requirements because they lack power steering and AC. And Texas 3D Customs engine is way too expensive to send to overseas, $63 with shipping and tax ☹️ Luckily The AMC 258 fits quite well in the engine compartment.
-
In 1964 Impala Super Sports have had the 230 6-cylinder standard engine, but most were equipped with V8 engine. I think Impala is more of a cruiser than a muscle car, so I also wanted power steering and AC. Such chevy 6 cylinder engines are not for sale separately or in any kits, so I decided to take the engine from the Pacer kit. What's more refreshing than putting an AMC engine in a Chevrolet ? Body is primered but color is not decided yet. Engine compartment is waiting inline 6 Chassis is assembled and painted. AMC 258

Thank you for your kind words. I appreciate them.

This was finally completed after two years of building. The model was quite a puzzle right out of the box and many parts had to be repaired and changed. The color is dark blue Tamiya TS-55 and looks almost black in the pictures. WIP topic is here:
-
This looks promising but I can't print 3D parts. Can I order printed parts from there?
-
I have asked several ebay 3D sellers if they could make AMC engines, but they have no interest in it. Fortunately, SCB can be converted to AMC V8 engine with suitable parts. What would be more refreshing than a Camaro with AMC 304
-
Looks rally good. Have you planned to replace the old torque tube gearbox with the correct one, e.g. 4-speed T-10, which has been in the Javelin. Such can be found in the AMT Matador NASCAR kit.

Back to Rambler. The interior parts are ready and primered. I haven't decided the color of the body yet and that will determine the color of the interior. Carmel Copper or some blue, but you can't get the right shades from any Finnish car paint shop. I have to try if any of Tamiya's colors are close enough.
