What Do You Want To See Next?
VW93 replied to Duntov's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Tom, I see your point but there is still a valid reason for "wish lists" like this. Granted some of the requests are for OOP kits. Perhaps the builder would like the same subject redone as a better detailed kit with todays tooling technology? Could Revell have made a marketing error by kitting a '67 Camaro? AMT did one 37 years ago and it has been reissued numerous times over the years. Also some of the requests are most likely to be a dud sales wise, but it doesn't hurt anyone to put the suggestion out there. -
What Do You Want To See Next?

I'd like to suggest everyone go back and read the entire first post in this thread. It started out as a great thread until it got sidetracked. -
Tim, thanks for the tire info. This kit is now a definite must have.
-
Tim, another great review. This one is on the must get list. Tim, what tires does it come with? Are slicks included ?
-
Fantastic review Tim. It's a nice kit but I'll wait and see if they do a drag version before I buy one. I'd say this more of a 1 1/2 in 1 kit instead of a 2 in 1. They could have at least included some headers and side pipes for the supposed race version.

What Do You Want To See Next?

I think a thread like this may be beneficial. You would have to hope that the powers to be in charge of new kits may be reading these threads. Reading through from page one that was started in February of 2013, I spotted several requests that are on the shelves now or are being tooled. There were a few requests for a 67 or 68 Camaro from Revell 67 Camaro Out now There were a few requests for a 76 Torino/S&H 4th Quarter Revell There were a few requests for a 65 Belvedere Mobeuis is doing a 65 Satellite There was one for a 65 Comet Mobeuis is doing a 65 Comet Cyclone There was also a request for a stock height 48 Ford sedan with period correct speed parts. I had a discussion with Revell last week about that and doing a stock height coupe also. If others feel the same way, we may see it one day. There were several other great requests, who knows what we might see in the future because of this type of thread. You have to wonder how many older threads about what you want to see made were read by the manufacturers. -
HobbyTown USA coupons and what would you do?
VW93 replied to clovis's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It was mentioned earlier in this thread that Hobby Lobby prices were above MSRP. I finally found four of my most recent purchases (past 6 months) from the Hobby Lobby store in Mooresville, NC. AMT Double Dragster Tin Kit $29.99 Round/2 MSRP $39.99 May have been a HL error in pricing, I used a 40% off coupon $19.48 with tax AMT '36 Ford $23.99 Round/2 MSRP $24.99 With a 40% off coupon $15.58 with tax AMT 25T w/ chopped coupe $21.99 Round/2 MSRP $23.99 With a 40% off coupon $14.29 with tax AMT LN8000 race car hauler $37.99 Round/2 MSRP $37.99 With a 40% off coupon $24.68 with tax The Hobby Town USA in Mooresville, NC is above MSRP on most kits. Their price on BMF was 8.95 the last time I checked a few weeks ago. BMF's suggested list is 6.75. Buying BMF direct has a disadvantage of $11.25 shipping/handling when I checked last week. I bought some at the CMK Summer Classic this past Saturday for 7.00 a sheet. My Michaels here in Salisbury seems to be at MSRP. The problem with this Michaels is that they never seem to have anyone keep the models in the correct slots price wise. If you find a kit that you are interested in buying you usually find it was in the wrong price code slot. None of the kits have a price sticker on them. Both HL's I go to in Kannapolis and Mooresville, NC are well maintained. -

Thanks Wayne, Bob, and Ace. This is only my third build in over 20 years so it's basically a build to try and improve my skills. -

From the CKM Summer Classic NNL in Clemmons ,NC yesterday. Picked up two sheets of BMF and a refill of Tamiya 6mm tape from Chip of Xtreme Scale Detail. Prices were great compared to what it would have cost at Hobby Town. Also picked up the '60 Galaxie 2in1 and a 1/32 late 70's Malibu police car for a possible slot car conversion from two other vendors.. I was vending at the show and had a fairly successful day of sales. Could have bought more but I was happy to go home with less than what I started out with instead of adding to what I already have.

Gordon, I'm not sure if it's a HL corporate policy about rain checks but my local HL in Mooresville, NC does it. I only stop in there if I'm visiting friends in the area as it's 70 miles round trip. I have one a little closer, it's only 48 miles round trip. -
Another thanks for posting those pictures. I was vending and only had about 5 minutes to look at everything on the tables.

The HL 40% off coupon is great, saves quite a bit on paint and supplies also. I discovered something at HL during my last visit there last week. If you look at the restock tags on the shelf you may notice their stock level is set at one piece. That is set by HL corporate. I tracked down the person that handles the model section and the crafts. I suggested to her that she may want to increase the stock levels on some of the kits such as the new '57 Chevy convertible and the soon to be released Revell '67 Camaro. She appreciated the input and said she can add to the minimum stock levels. You may want to do the same at your local HL. Also the shelves are restocked at my HL on Tuesdays, so you may want to check when your HL restocks. If it's not on the shelf on their restock day you may need to ask if they have it in the storeroom. Another tip is that if you go in with a 40% off coupon and the kit/item you want is not in stock they can special order it for you. Just find the person that handles the model/craft section. They will honor the coupon as a rain check I'm not sure how long they will hold the item for you.. -

Still working on this, the heat and humidity have put a halt to most of the paint work that still needs to be done. I glass beaded the tires and painted the rims gloss black. I used a small blade screwdriver to line up the spokes the best I could. Also drilled out the horn for a more realistic look. Firewall detailed, a little touchup work needed here and there. Frame painted satin black with gloss black suspension and drivetrain. Grill painted satin black with a silver sharpie for the emblem and trim. I hope to get the engine painted this week along with the fenders and start the assembly process. -
round 2 36 ford coupe building / color ideas
VW93 replied to AC Norton's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
AC and others I posted a link to NHRA Rule Books from 1958 to 1968 several months ago on the Drag Racing Models forum. For some reason I can't copy & paste the link in this message. Go to the Drag Racing Models forum and use the search function in the upper right hand corner. Type in "Link to NHRA rule books" and it should be the first thread to pop up. Perhaps one of the Mods could pin it to the top of the page? -
Shane, see you there. Thanks for the offer to help in the AM.

I just got off the phone with Revell about the Blue Bandito since it was supposed to be out in the third quarter. They told me it now has a mid September release date. I was told it was being issued as the original with buckets, bed cover, scuba gear and surfboard. The only changes are the name and the Cadillac valve covers due to licensing. The valve covers will not have the Cadillac script. It seems they can't issue it as the Blue Beetle due to VW having "Beetle" trademarked. I should have asked them about the box art.

Jason, also look in the 1:! reference pictures forum for more pics of a stock '41 Willys. I'd post the link but I'm having problems learning to use Windows 8!!!! I posted them in April, search the forum for Willys. The car in question is located about a half mile from me.
