55/57 Cameo build W.I.P.
Revstew replied to Revstew's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Been a bit slow finding time to get back to the bench. Still waiting on the chrome to get here which is starting to add to the slow of assembly. Here is some of the latest progress for now. Not much but something LOL! Got the front suspension mostly assembled and ready for the motor to drop in once the headers are modified a little and the wiring is done. Pleased as well with how well the stamped control arms came out. for my first stab at them. Dashboard is done and I am still finishing up the steering wheel/column and redoing the seat before I add flocking and finish interior assembly. -

1955 Cameo
Revstew replied to 502's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I totally know what you are talking about Jason. I am a very slow builder but am hoping that in 2015 I can get a few knocked out. I have a very deep stash as well of needed attention but sometimes when a build starts to speak to me I just have to bump someone up the list and get to that one. This Cameo was supposed to be later down the line and just something said it was time LOL!! It will be my first completed kit in almost 2 years or so and is by far the most detailed level I have ever taken a model. But I do now have a couple Cameo style projects bouncing around in my head. Keep up the great work. Any updates on this Cameo build by chance? -
Oh wow those look amazing. Love what you have going with the new hoops!!! Could you PM me some info on that lathe. I have only used one a few times but have been wondering if worth the investment and learning curve. Great wheels.

Project: "Inferno" 49 Merc - *Update p17* 3/13/15
Revstew replied to JasonFL's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks Jason. The build thread is under the light truck workbench section under 55/57 Cameo. I would love to get some feedback of your thoughts on it. Hoping to try your dimple dye idea on my 60 Impala I am working on. -
55/57 Cameo build W.I.P.
Revstew replied to Revstew's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
So here is pretty much where she is at so far. Got a second coat of paint and first coat of clear laid down. Underside of the bed. The center section still needs to be cut out for the frame clearances. shaved firewall and underside of the cab floor Cab and bed got some clear. Then added some lace work to the roof of the cab. The lace is HOK pearl white over the same HOK green that I used on the frame and suspension. While waiting for the clear and lace to dry I got the frame and components primed and painted. Went and added some matching HOK pearl white to the bed sides as well. Here is the first time the painted body and painted chassis met for a mock up and I am very happy with the way the accent green of the frame and suspension goes with the body color. Parts are now laid out and hoping to get going on assembly. Taking my time will be the biggest challenge I think. This is where my fat impatient fingers can be my worst enemy. Well that is all I got for now. Please continue to let me know your thoughts. I appreciate the input. -

Your name looks familiar and I think you were tagged in a Facebook post. Funny how small the world is thanks to this fancy interweb. Thank you Jason. I am going to try and upload some updated progress pics today. Thank you as well for the Kustoms Inc., props. He does great work and I will be sure to show him your kind words. What is your IG name? (You can PM it to me if you would like) Thank you for all the killer compliments and advice. It really helps keep the drive alive. More to come soon. -

Richard, What is your tips on narrowing the wheels like you mentioned to keep the tires looking right? Do you section the width of the rim or take it off the back side and what about the tires? -

This is just an amazing build. The use of scrap parts and creativity are so inspiring. Can't wait to take a stab at some of these techniques I am seeing here. I am almost finished with my 55/57 Chevy Cameo and can't wait to get going on something next to try some of this. GREAT JOB!!! Can't wait to see more. -
How do you keep the glass from fogging up with the CA glue when filling the scratches? I have a couple kits with bad scratches in the glass and would love to learn how to remove them and save the glass like that.

1955 Cameo
Revstew replied to 502's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
This is coming along fantastic. Love the smooth wheels!! What did you use to bend the rails like that and keep them so uniform on both sides. I am also doing a Cameo model. The thread is under model cars workbench though. Would love to know what your thoughts are? Thank you for any advice you can give. -
"50" Custom 3100 (Finished)
Revstew replied to James2's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
How do you do these contours in the head liner and fire wall? Do you layer styrene or so you scribe lines into a thicker sheet of styrene and if so what do you use to scribe and not make cuts. This truck looks amazing and cant wait to see it with color. Great wheel and tire combo. -

I sent the chrome to ChromeTech USA. His name is Robert and they do great work. I have attached a link to his website as it is pretty descriptive on the process and what you need to do to send parts in as well as different levels of service that he offers. http://www.chrometechusa.com/model-cars-and-collectibles.html Thank you for the compliments. I am hoping to upload more images today. -
55/57 Cameo build W.I.P.
Revstew replied to Revstew's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
More done. Decided to also go with the 57 grill and opened it up for some depth. and then sectioned the rear bumper end caps to fit under the tail lights. Sent the parts out for fresh chrome and waiting for them to return. Also added the finned '55 Buick drums. Sectioned the Tailgate to fit. Opened up the firewall and shaved engine compartment side to make room for the 409. Added some recessed bed side panels to give it some lines as I thought the bed box was a little plain on this truck. Final motor mock up and added the Cadi air cleaner before finally getting to start paint. Prepped and ready to start getting some color added to the mix. I used all House of Kolor paints. The motor and running gear and interior all went a custom greenish gold mix. I am really pleased with the color so far. Really liking the look of the motor against the shaved firewall. Interior bucket is also painted and waiting for some flocking and components. Adding some detail to the valve covers, oil pan bolts and of course some striping on the pan and bell housing thanks to my buddy at Kustoms Inc. First coat of color laid down. Round two and clear to come. Very happy with the color contrast to the frame color even before clear. While waiting for clear to set it was a good time to start installing some suspension at the rear. Tonight the chassis and suspension should all get some color. More to come...... -
Do you have any advice that you can give on scribing lines in a body. I am working on a 60 Impala and notice that some if the trim edges don't really have relief on them to follow?

Revstew replied to Revstew's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I am going to be spraying the truck in a couple greens with pearl white accents and lace work on the roof. Yes I am keeping the Astro Supremes on this build. Thank you for all the comments and positive feedback. I really appreciate the input. More pics to update the build coming hopefully today or this evening.
