I am anxious to get the detailing done and final assembly.
-
Clear coat goes on today, and final assembly begins.

Dremel and a sanding drum to the rescue! And I use a draftsman's dividers to keep things in close tolerance.
-
The Pine Cone left me with some extra parts and a fresh delivery body. Not sure what the wheels are; I found a set of four and went with it. The engine and suspension are from the kit, raised in front, and the Funny Farmer donated the intake manifold and injectors...solder headers etc, the usual. Interior will be gasser stark, except for the '58 Chevy console and '49 Ford dashboard. ... Now the detailing can begin and final assembly soon..

That is a great idea...I may have to obtain one more!! There are tons of photos of '58 deliveries on line too.

Yes, I cut one up. I have always wanted to do this. The Polar Lights Ecto is a much simpler kit than the AMT Ecto 1A. And it makes an interesting pickup truck.I used a widened '58 T-bird top. Just painted the body Plum Crazy and Purple-licious fadeaway...

Remember this one? I actually finished it, but it took a lot of sanding, priming, and putty....repeat several times. I used Plum Crazy for the body, Purple-licious for the fenders. Wheels came from an old tin toy. I have an old Model Car Journal from 1992 that shows this body, made by Mike's Miniature Motors.... but it was somewhat less than flawless. See what i started with in "On the workbench"

I like your parts biz...glad you included your link. It is in my favorites and I will be visiting as soon as I can afford to buy anything...!

Without a doubt, Jimmy Flintstone has got it together. All I had to do was clean up the body a bit and drop it on the AMT chassis. I did have to fab an interior and rear cargo area but what a pleasure this one was to build!!! Hubcaps and a few other bits are aftermarket items.

Paint is mostly done, and final details will be added soon....then it goes to Under glass...

This really intrigues me! Especially the photo of the entire fleet of '58 Chevys!!! I wonder, where are they now, and did they have the 348 engine? Very interesting...I am building a Flintstone '58 sedan delivery but was unaware there were plain ol' sedans out there. I would love a 58 Bel Air; dad had one, a gorgeous 283 powered blue and white beauty. He totalled it in '65. It was a 4-door though...might be hard to find.

I started with a box of parts; i had four of these kits in one box, a Smoothster, two Vantastics, and a Coupester leftovers, and used a lot of them for other projects...and there was just enough left to make a chassis and interior. I lost the fenders, put in a 427 Chevy, Jada wheels, and many modifications that are under the "skin". It will have ;63 Vette tail lights, '39 Chevy headlights attached to the modified Smoothster grille...exhaust and driveshaft are aluminum tubing. It will be Mystic Emerald with '39 Chevy delivery "Dr Feelgood" graphics. Recently moved to "Under Glass".

The only word I can think of to describe this is "perfect"...especially the exhaust and wheels.
-
True dat...the grilles DO look good in spite of the lights. A little moxie would cure that...drill em out and put better ones in...delicate but do-able!!! I saw a bunch of parted out kits on Ebay, including most of the parts for a 64 Cutlass, and several parts for the Funny Farmer. They ARE out there!!!!

Hope you don't need much. The AWB kit has the body, glass, rear bumper and tail light strip, front bumper, and the grilles but they do not have headlight detail. That is all. The rest is all Rat Packer stuff. If that is what you need, go for it but the kit is spendy even on Ebay! Parts abound there, though...no need to get the whole kit.

Progress is slow and careful due to the brittle nature of this od resin body. I would like to know who made it but obviously there is nary a clue.
-
I wanted to, but somehow the page has no "edit" today.
-
A friend lamented that altered wheelbase...but a '63 Tempest 3-in-1 kit is priced like, astronomical...though I DID spend $175 for a 1964 Cutlass...so the rule is, if you see it, buy it..Nothing against Ebay...but those guys who "part out" a rare kit..are skunks. I would rather spend more and get a mint kit. My Cutlass was perfect. So was the "Funny Farmer" though i could have gotten them for less on Ebay...but in what condition???

The Pine Cone is coming along...lotta trimming, now the body fits. Then the Boydster chassis and fuelie 327 go into service...more later...
-
But isn't that a 1953 Chevy? It does look like a '58 top, but otherwise....????
