I use MEK in copious amount's for cleaning PVC and ABS large diameter pipe fittings, prior to using the appropriate adhesive. It is available in the UK under the name of Griffon cleaner and I have used it under a variety of conditions, most pf them poorly ventilated, it can give you a bit of a headache, it has a low flashpoint and can be rather explosive when used as an accelerant but it will dissolve styrene and can be used to make spru glue and at approx. £ 8:00 for a 500ml. tin it is a lot cheaper than most thin glues.
