  1. I am a big fan of the film and television genre of model building and the movie Dumb and Dumber! This is the last model that i finished up. The Van to dog conversion is definitely a different build from what i am used to but had a lot of fun trying to recreate that shag rug that covered the original screen used car. I started with the 1977 AMT coca cola Ford Econoline Van. The original was a 1984 Ford Econoline so i had to make a few modifications to get it closer to the correct year. Mainly i had to move the fuel filler location. There were a couple minor interior differences. I scratch built some new inside door panels just to add some detail but overall the configuration of the interiors in these vans didnt change much. I had fun with the interior adding some additional fur for the seats and steering wheel covers. I added some beer bottles filled with a questionable liquid, fast food drinks, random trash and a scratch built CB radio. Difficult to see but there is also a curtain that separates the cab from the storage area in back. I built up the the ears, tail, and snout of the dog using some styrene and believe it or not sheet foam that i was able to easily sculpt and sand. I searched high and low for the right faux fur. Everything was too large to replicate the long pile shag rug that was used on the screen used car. Surprisingly i found an old stuffed toy that wasn't being used by my kids anymore so I repurposed its fur. Ended up looking pretty close in my opinion. This one was a lot of fun. Definitely a rut buster!
  2. Thanks! The last article I did was back in 1999-2000. It was an article on converting the old Lincoln Futura Kit into the 60s Batmobile. I dont have a scan of it but if you have any back issues of SAE, you may have it. Its not the most accurate 60s Batmobile, but for a 17 year old with limited reference material, i was proud of it! There were a few things i chose to leave off at the time as i just didnt have a good way to scratch build or recreate them. Always planned to revisit it but 24 years later, it is still in the same state... lol... Too many other projects!
  3. Hello, Name is Ed. Just joined the forum. Figured i would drop by and introduce myself. I started building models when i was a kid in the 80s. Got pretty serious throughout my teens. Wrote a couple build articles back in the day when Scale Auto Enthusiast and Fine Scale modeler were the only ways to get your car modeling fix... lol... Fell away from the hobby for a long while, got married had a couple kids and found model building again being stuck at home during the pandemic... Not sure if that is a blessing or curse! Found myself becoming obsessed with plastic kits again... Well here I am. My builds mainly revolve around film and television cars and hot rods. Hoping to pick up a few new tips and tricks and perhaps share a few along the way!
