  1. I use a large make-up brush to dust them, but then again, I keep my models and diecast in a converted entertainment center that's reasonably air-tight. We started with an oak entertainment center, and put white MDF on the back. Then, my dad and I made an oak frame with routed channels for sliding glass doors, and then added glass shelves. We also added puck lights. The picture below is about 5 years old, but currently, there are over 500 diecast, and half a dozen plastic models on display, and they've all been there for 10 years with little/no dust accumulation (you can also see the illumination provided by the puck lights.
  2. The kit is getting expenbsive on EBay. I just snagged one for $22, but they typically go for as much as $40. The one I got is going to serve as a template for homemade chassis for other models. What I really need is an endless supply of the wheels/tires/motor that come in the kit.
  3. I still have the model on display at home, so I can take more. It was my first kit bash, so it's a little rough. After doing it, I wasn't happy about the fact that I had painted the chassis blue. I might try to do it again. I'll take some more pics sometime this week.
  4. I even did some kit bashing: Bob Glidden's 1987 Pro-Stock T-Bird (Revell, 1/24, using hubcaps from 1987 Turbo Coupe) 1965 Mustang fastback body on T-bird Pro-Stock chassis And finally the rest: Ford-powered Indy Car (Monogram, 1/24) 1964 Thunderbolt Fairlane (Revell, 1/25) 427 Race-Prepared Cobra (Monogram, 1/24, Nascar tires on back, shave kit back tires on front)
  5. I'm just getting back into the hobby after a 21-year break, and thought I'd share some pics of some cars I did WAY back when. I was a member of the San Diego Model Car Club, and each month, the club sponsor would donate a couple models for the members to build. The only deal was that we had to have the model completed before the next meeting, and the model was put on display for a month in the store that donated them. The first three pics are examples of those models (sorry the pictures are so small): Group 88C Toyota (Tamiya, 1/24) Benetton Ford (Tamiya, 1/20) 1970 Boss 302 (Monogram, 1/24) The next one won 3rd Place at an IPMS regional contest: Cobra S/C 427 (Monogram, 1/24) Of course, I was REAL big into NASCAR: #7 Zerex Ford as driven by Alan Kulwicki (Monogram, 1/24, gradient stripes are painted on) #6 Folgers Ford as driven by Mark Martin (Monogram, 1/24) #28 Havoline Ford as driven by Davey Allison (Monogram, 1/24) #6 Stroh Light as driven by Mark Martin (Monogram, 1/24, practice car) #7 ViewPlan T-Bird (Monogram, 1/24, homemade decals representing the company I worked for at the time) be sure to check out Part 2
  6. Is atme_satx this still a going concern (currently with 12 members)? I live on the west side near Sea World. I'm re-entering the hobby and a 21-year leave of absence, and besides the Gato-class submarine I'm building for my dad (yes, the 1/72 scale one) I've got nine kits in the queue. The last model car club I participated in was in San Diego (late 80's early 90's), and I still have a handful of the models that I built back then. Any info?
