Dash Board Quiz just for you.
uncle potts replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
61% 27 of 44. I would get the make and miss the year, and vis-versa. Except the 55 Chevy, dad had 2 of those, that was easy. -
I've used them with no problem. If I remember correctly, I got mine at the Wal-mart in the craft dept.

my grandsons first, with a little help from grandpa

I recommend the Revell snap kits they can play with. Its really hard for theses little guys to build a model and not want to play with it. -

He's 8. This is his first glue kit. We've done a couple snap kits when he was younger. His brother is five, and we've done one of Revells make and play snap kits. I really recommend these as they are easy for a young child to put togeather themselves, and they can play with them. Which little guys will want to do. -
This is fascinating. Something to keep in mind.....

Thanks. By the way i forgot to mention earlier, yours are really well done. There is obviously a lot of time put into them.

This is my grandsons first glue kit the '06 Mustang. He needed a little guidance at times (the exacto knife makes me nervous), but most was done by him.

Thats really cool!

I empathize with you trying to pack and move, we lived on an acreage, 4 bedroom house, 3 car grage, for 10 years. It was a nightmare sorting, packing and moving what we had collected in 10 years. I can't imagine trying to deal with what can be collected since 1960.

That is one beautiful car Harry. We will look forward to watching you build it, as always. -

'41 Chevy pickup
uncle potts replied to uncle potts's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Here is the latest update. The engine is mounted in the chassis, brake lines and fuel lines need to be finished. The interior of the cab is done, and the floor pan /fender assy is ready for the cab. And the body for the boom has been started. Any comments are welcome, I know it has its flaws, but I want to know what you see, it helps me be a better modeler. -
Nice looking model. You should be proud to have it on your shelf. I had to go look, and I do have this one, maybe it will have to be next.

I like it!

$2.25 Million Cuda

One more reason I build models. -
I've tried several times to change my profile pic, but it won't work. What am I doing wrong?

When you experience all the problems of the build, you tend to look at the imperfections, and miss the beauty of the build, cause it looks good to us.

Just picked up on this thread. I like what I see so far, some nice looking takes on this truck. I have the '69 on the shelf that I am going to use to replicate my father-in-laws old work truck. I have to keep myself to one project at a time, I'm too easily confused. They make meds for what you have, but I don't recommend them for you cause it seems to work for you.

'41 Chevy pickup
uncle potts replied to uncle potts's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
The open grill looks good. A small detail that often gets overlooked on these trucks is the area between the upper grill and lower grill is the body color on most of these trucks, a pain to paint but adds a lot in my opinion. This photo shows what I'm talking about http://s.hswstatic.com/gif/1941-chevrolet-series-ak-pickup-2.jpg For the wrecker boom if you do a google images search for Weaver Auto Crane or Manley Wrecking Crane, there are a lot of photos and drawings out there. These are examples of common wrecker booms from the 1920 into the 40s and not too hard to scratch build. The open grill looks good. Going to leave it as is, i really don't think I'm going to change it.Thanks for the tip on the google search, I've looked some, but haven't found what I like. the wheels came from an unknown kit. I went to my LHS to see if they could locate a wheel i could use, and the owner gave me these wheels from a incomplete kit he had. They were perfect for what I needed. The tires came from he vts dodge pickup. Sorry about the messed up quotes, not sure what I did. Thanks for all the comments, I will keep this build updated as quickly as I can. -
This ones been sitting on the workbench for the last 6 months collecting dust. My original plan was to build a wrecker. I've been struggling with the plan for the boom itself, I can't find what I want. So I thought it time to finish the pickup and worry about the boom later. The wheels are from a 1/35 military truck, the tires are from the vts Dodge pickup, and the brake drums are small wooden craft wheels. The grill has been opened up, and the paint has been given the salt treatment after primer.
