  1. haha yeah that tomato red is the colour they used... well the daytona for sure! Here's how well the rear window louvers fit on the daytona.
  2. Its actually tomato red automotive pinstripe, i just cut it really thin and it worked out perfect! it sticks great too!
  3. Thanks! I just finished the red pinstripe, now it looks complete!
  4. Those Daytona's look great! There's a few pro street Daytona's here at the local track. Is that your omni 024 in your profile pic? I got the trim pieces all painted on the body... a ton of masking! I blacked out both grill inserts just like a 1:1 car would have. Tamiya Semi-gloss acrylic sprayed thru my airbrush.
  5. Thanks guys! I lightly wet sanded the body and polished it and it's like glass! I decided to paint the window trim a semi gloss... this is harder to do then BMF! i don't wanna use a brush, so i'll mask off every window frame and paint it, same goes for door handles and belt moulding.
  6. Thanks! Yeah I was gonna use tamiya clear, but black is such a hard colour for fingerprints and scratches, and using an automotive clear with hardener eliminates that. Plus it shines so nice!! I sprayed it thru my small seta jet gun and thinned it 10% with euro thane reducer, since the clear is pretty thick and can bury details and panel lines easily. Being reduced sprays like water! You should build them up, do they come with a proper 2.2l turbo? I wanna get a first gen model after I finish this one and my Shelby Charger. I'm actually thinking of robbing the pizza rims from the charger kit, to put on this one. The pizza rims look good on the daytona's
  7. That nose cone will be a good starting point. the nose on the 86 turismo is not really angled in the grill area. Thats an awesome kilt! i want one of those for my collection. I got the body painted, I used tamiya TS-14 black and then cleared it with dupont chroma-clear (4:1) I'm going to leave all the window trim gloss black, the mirrors will be gloss black as well.. all of the daytona's I've done, i painted all the trim in black (base clear) and i think it looks way better then the semi-gloss that came originally. I'll paint the belt moulding semi gloss black with the red stripe tho.
  8. Thanks! I got the roof in primer, i wasn't impressed with tamiya grey putty! I put two light coats on and sanded between coats (over two days) and the sunroof kept showing an outline in the primer, so i sanded it down and used automotive two part putty, and it was perfect. I should have known better with the tamiya laquer putty! I also opened up the vents in the lower part of the bumper and got the nose glued to the body.
  9. Thanks guys! Wow you've got 6 of these kits?? I plan on building a bunch more down the road, since there nicely detailed kits. I haven't had one fitment issue on the motor yet! Thats a nice colour combo on these cars, I also like the charcoal that was offered in 1987. I got the sunroof glued in place, next will be putty and primer. I also have the headlight doors glued on to the nose (closed) I don't like the way they look open on this kit, something about the chrome headlights that make it look toyish. I think if AMT would have put a better effort in the box art on this issue, it would have sold better! That red daytona on the front and the other pics, makes this kit look like ######, until you open it up. I had an original MPC issue of this kit and the real pic of the car for the box art looked way nicer. Here is another pic of the motor, i got some more pieces added. Building this makes me want my 89 shelby back! I was going to make a power steering pump bracket, but it will be unseen once the intake is on and the car is all assembled
  10. Thanks! yeah they are kind of a forgotten car, since a lot of people didn't accept them from being a FWD four cylinder. I got the exhaust manifold painted cast iron with a light staining of rust and the compressor housing done in polished aluminium. I wanna give it the look of a brand new car. The only other weathering will be the catalytic converter heat stained. Here is the colour the interior will be done... still can't make my mind up between flash red or black! I'm going to fill in the sunroof, i want it a bare bones Shelby Z.
  11. Thanks! yeah even tho i sold off most of my collection, i still love these cars. I would love to put a T3 (224HP motor) in a little Shelby Charger. what year and colour was your shelby? I also had a black and silver 86 Shelby Charger, i miss that car too. Not much of an update but i got a little more assembled on the motor and and a bunch of pieces prepped for paint. I cut the A/C belt and pulley off too. There is a lot of parts on this motor! very well detailed with all the hoses and air box. I took this pic thru my magnifying glass light.
  12. Thanks for the compliments. The decal is from the revell 68 charger kit. Id like to get some direct connection decals!
  13. Thanks. The turismo was the L-body platform (Daytona is a G-body) if you can scratch build a quad headlight turismo clip, then the MPC Shelby charger kit will give you a good start! Everything is the same between the Shelby charger and turismo, except the front bumper setup. Oh and the hood is slightly different between the two cars. The bonus with the Shelby charger kit, is there isn't any ground effects or wing molded into the body
  14. I got the Valve Cover done, Both look awesome in my opinion!
  15. That Daytona and Charger looks awesome! Thanks Billy and brandon. I got the block painted black today, (i love that liquid mask BTW) wired and dipstick added. I also got the valve cover stripped, so i can paint it flat black, i'm going to do the valve cover like i did with my shelby mustang.. BMF the ribs and "turbo" then paint it flat black and lightly sand the ribs to reveal the BMF. I have to do the intake this way as well.
  16. Thanks guys for all the comments so far. Your Daytona looks awesome wayne! I bought two more of these kits on ebay for $5 each, since i plan on making more... i want to do a T-top one and i need the motor out of one for my shelby charger model kit, since it has the 1.7L volkswagon motor in it, . Here's how i am painting the motor in this kit. Bone stock T2, this pic is from my 89 T-top car. I'll have a few pics tonight of the model, i should have the motor and transmission painted. I already have a coat of duplicolor cast aluminium paint on it, i just need to mask it off and airbrush the block gloss black.
  17. I got the motor halfs glued together, all the seam lines sanded smooth and the holes drilled for the heater hose and spark plugs. (one under the thermostat and the other below the alternator) I have to make one more hole for the dipstick, then a final sanding and paint. The firewall on this kit has the heater hoses molded in and it has them on the passenger side, going to the drivers side which is wrong. The 1:1 car has them coming out right beside the brake booster, so i'll be sanding those hoses off the firewall (i'd have to do it anyway) I'm also going to be eliminating the A/C, since most canadian ones never had A/C and i don't feel like plumbing it and adding a condenser. I'm going to make a fuel rail, add fuel lines and run all the vacuum lines and make a solenoid pack for the strut tower. Oh i also want to add the clutch lever and cable. I will cook thru my model stash to see if i have a throttle body i can use, since this kit really doesn't have one. I had to cut the distributer cover down, it was way to long and went past the valve cover, which would have interfered with the plug wires. They weren't that tall on the real car anyway. door handles are backwards, haha .
  18. Thanks! I still own a white 1990 Daytona Shelby, but it needs alot of work like most of them do. They have a style that doesnt seem to age! My 87 shelby z even had the talking feature and digital dash. I have never heard them being called that, I just got the name from this site, http://www.dempseybowling.com/shelby/wheel101.htm
  19. That sounds awesome, do you have any pics? For the time this kit looks very nice and the body is perfectly in proportion. I'm going to build a replica of my mustang next, and the AMT 87 mustang 5.0 is terrible... The front nose is way to much on an angle, the lights are chrome plated and under the hood is all wrong in the rad suport area. The Daytona comes with some cool things too, like a radar detector and 80's cell phone.
  20. That really sucks. I might attempt to make a set.. these eggshell rims are a good base to start with, we'll see how far i go with this kit. I also have a shelby charger kit in my collection (2 actually) and the rear window louvers are an exact fit on the daytona. I'm thinking i might do this one black with tan interior now... that's always been my favourite combo on these cars. The rear louvers are going to look awesome on this car! i had a set for my car when i owned it.
  21. Yes those are the crab wheels, there 15" x 6.5" and used from 1986 to 1988. i'm not sure if there's any older daytona kits with these rims? I remembered those blacked out rims from that show. I think her 87 shelby was more of a prototype from chrysler (first tv view of the new style) because i remember reading somewhere that the car (most likely the one in the pic) had the older style first gen interior. Here's the rims it comes with.. eggshell rims. 87-88 daytona pacifica eggshell rims.
  22. Yeah i've seen a few episodes, that was a cool 80's show! wasn't her car a t-top? I guess if you get some strip styrene and get creative it could be done with this kit. it would be awesome if somebody made a resin cast of the crab rims, i know i'd buy a bunch of sets and you'll need them to build the hunter car.
  23. I guess i should have looked closer!!! it has two motors (three if you count the V8) it has the turbo 1 and turbo 2 motor! the T1 has the auto, which is correct with the real car and the T2 has the 5 speed. I'm pretty impressed with this kit, the only thing that looks scary to do is the front window. It also has the 1987 style two piece intake manifold as well.. the motor looks really detailed and i plan on adding all the details i can.
  24. Nice car! I love the first gens too... reminds me of the wraith! The first gens were only turbo 1 cars and i believe the 84 daytona had the mechanical waste gate and air search turbo... not as consistant in boost as the 85+ turbo cars which were computer controlled via solenoid. Very quick cars for there day! my blue 89 was a bone stock T2 and ran the same time in the 1/4 mile as my cousins 89 mustang 5.0
