Truck wheels
rottin1 replied to ABC Auto Industry's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Not to mention if you didn't get all the wedges and nuts mounted on even, the outside rim would wobble. Also if they weren't on tight, the outside rim would spin and sheer off the valve stem. They only thing I ever liked about them was how they looked on the old trucks when some of the guys would paint them up nice. Daytons look nice when the spokes where paint the same color as the frame and the outside rim was painted the same as the cab colors. -
Definetly a unique looking truck. I like the color! What color is that anyways? Any motor shots?? I can't help you with the picture posting info because that's one of my downfalls. I need to sharpen my picture taking skills and learning more about posting, cropping and stuff like that. 1st thing I know I need to do is update my camera, but even then I'm lost when it comes to the new fangled cameras and megapixels and stuff like that!!

Peterbilt tow truck part 3
rottin1 replied to crashalot2's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Lee: I have the complete wrecker body from the Can Do wrecker. I would be willing to trade it for something. I have no use for it except for the marker lights and the slam locks. Those I want to keep. Let me know if thats something you would consider. Doesn't hurt to ask!! Nice job on this one as well Lee. Nice looking truck. I like how you used the old style lights on her! -
Revell Pete 359...any comments???
rottin1 replied to KT EASTMAN's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
That's why we're all glad your here Tim! Your endless facts and information! I know it helps me!When I built my second snap tite truck I cut the sleeper off and grafted the backside of an old amt 359. The reason I did that, not only to have the window but the rivot detail as well. It's funny you should mention the sleeper idea. I was toying around with the cut off sleeper a couple off weeks ago with the Yellow 359 I'm rebuilding for my auto trailer. I was stting it on the frame of the truck to see what a skinny bunk would look like on the Revell Germany truck. It looked really nice with that wheelbase. And then I came up with the idea for one of my future builds. I have a Revell Can do tow truck. I am going to build the truck without the wrecker and put the bunk from the snaptite truck on her. I bought that wrecker kit for the parts anyways. -
Peterbilt tow truck Holmes 750
rottin1 replied to crashalot2's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Very nice job on the Holmes !! Very impressive scratch building. It does make it look like an old vintage wrecker. I'm impressed. -
Peterbilt tow truck part 2
rottin1 replied to crashalot2's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Nice truck as well. You need to come up with some door decals for your fleet though......maybe....... " CRASHALOT TOWING" Now there's a name for a towing company! -
KW tow truck WIP
rottin1 replied to crashalot2's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Now that's sweet as well! I like your theme,I really do. A all wrecker fleet! Nice job. I also like the way you use the outdoors for taking picture. Now all you have to do is get the highway crew to lay some new asphalt over the old wooden road. Followed by the line painting crew!! Looks good man, keep up the good work! -
My other tow trucks
rottin1 replied to crashalot2's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Very cool fleet you have going on! I'm with John on the Transtar. I like that one the best myself. I also like how you accomodated the wrecker body to fit the fuel tank in. Nice touch. Very nice looking truck. The others are just as nice but I'm partial to the International. Now is the White KW the Revell kit? How was that one to build? Some time back I was wanting one of those but really couldn't afford it and it was hard to find. I see very few on eBay. I was just wondering if it was nice as the other Revell kits. Johnny -
Two Diamond Reo's
rottin1 replied to crashalot2's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Good looking Diamond Reo's. A couple of months ago I picked up one of those kits. I think it's the later version because the boxart shows a Black tractor. I think the box with the Green Reo is the original. I can't wait to start it. I remember building one of thes like 20 some years ago. It was givin away to a friend in a box of trucks and trailers because I wanted out of the hobby. Now I wished I had that box of trucks back now that I have gotten back into the hobby.Nice job on all of your builds. I like the wrecker collection you have going on. -
Jerry: I totaly agree with you. That's why I have been buying some already built kits to do just that:rebuild them because it's cheaper. Actually I think it's more challanging rebuilding. The Pete auto carrier that I have shown pictures of on this website is just that: a $50.00 score of eBay for both the tractor and trailer. There is no way I could buy one either on eBay or from somewhere else for $50.00 new in box! Johnny
