Since I finished with Miata, time to pick another quick box stock to keep the ball rolling. I have a few kits that I do want to build and put on the shelf, but I don't want to superdetail or spend way too much time on them - so these Tamiya box-stockers are perfect way to do just that. This is another Nissan that I have built close to 20 years ago when I just started getting hooked on these Tamiya kits, and it also did suffer at the hands of my nephews long time ago and was blown to bits probably at some point. Time to build another one. IMG_1601 by Italian Horses, on Flickr When I buy kits that were re-issued at some point, I always try to get an original release - for the history of it first, and the fact that molds are usually much better than subsequent re-releases. The only case where that might not be the best way to go is with older race cars, where original decals might be a problem - they usually do deteriorate over time. This one doesn't have many decals, thank fully. Just like I like it - original Tamiya release of 1989 in a grey bottom box with original catalogs, crinkly tamiya plastic, yellowed instruction sheet and that unforgettable smell of a 90-s kit! This model was completed relatively recently, it's probably the cleanest model I've created. It helps that there was no paint job on the body to screw up, since the white plastic it came in was the color I wanted. It could've used some small details like the black inside the grille and more interior detail. But at least I was able to paint the brake calipers red like a true Japanese car enthusiast (which aren't very easy to see, unfortunately). The worst part about this build is the reverse lights, which are very difficult to make neat if you're not great at painting, like I am. And like a lot of these Japanese kits, the hood isn't removable and there's not a complete engine, which is a shame. And yes, I put the Autech decal on the back even though I used the standard body kit, I didn't realize at the time what that sticker meant. Anyway, thanks for looking and tell me what you think.

Hey guys! I've started working on a recently arrived kit, Aoshima's TOP SECRET Nissan Silvia S-15 Spec. R. It's a decent kit. There are some fitment issues with the hood and front bumper but those should be easily solved. What will take some work is putting in an RB26 from my spare R32 kit, along with the transmission. I'll also use a single turbo set up and custom exhaust. Otherwise, that's as far as I've planned. it's really rough now, I haven't polished it up much. I just pulled out the dremel and started cutting and did a bit of sanding. I'll be working on this more as I close in on the end of my RX-7 build.
