Topic for inspiration, on how far can one go with sacrilegious blasphemy in ruining a perfectly good Mercedes Benz. AMG started the idea of hot rodding them, and now they are a factory subsidiary, so they shouldn't count. Maybach could be included, the Excelero was a one off hot rod. B+B was a customizer. I don't think gold wrapped Benzes should count, they are a dime a dozen. ? If there is a cult name for these cars, let me know. Starting off with a rendering of a 300 SL:

This time it's like a shake down run with the Mercedes club, stopping somewhere in CA.

Revell's Mercedes Benz 190 SL, silly to add "Roadster" because the SL was always a roadster. ? I've had a wild hair to get one, found a decent priced re-issue on feeBay, so *had to* get it. Price was good because tires are missing, but I have plans for it. Searched, did not find that anyone had built it, prove me wrong. Picture on Scalemates: I know this is based on the 300 SL, but sort of what I'm thinking of. I see the Fujimi 1/24 Mercedes Benz SLK 230 Sports Version Model Kit 12524 is a modern version, and Tamiya made one, but both lack an engine, correct? An alternative would be a Skyline aftermarket engine. Just throwing ideas out seeing what will catch inspiration. I'll post pictures of the kit when the time comes. ,

Built from 1989 issue Prestige kit. Several parts had extremely poor placement and fit on top of being warped. The opening doors and trunk were the worst offenders, so those were glued shut and rescribed. Also, some parts were missing due to rattling in a battered holey box for 30 years. Nonetheless, I was customizing anyway with mods as followed: Twin Supercharged Ford V8 swap comes from Mathew and Debbie Heys T-Bird Pro Street, with a custom made intake as the original munti-piece chrome unit kept hitting the Mercedes hood. Styrene scrap trees bent as intake tubes and oil filters turned into air filters as the original pieces were missing. Electronic fan/radiator comes was also sourced from a Revell Acura Integra. T-Bird Pro Street's side exhaust was used with heavy modifications to exit at the rear Steering wheels comes from AMT Silhouette Mesh screening was used in lieu of kit's vent piece, which was an ill fitting heap when it hit's the inner fenders Front and rear bumpers were omitted to created cleaner look, bumper pins were used to cover up mounting holes. Badging and such were shaved and smoothed. Custom wheels form unknown Revell source, with front tires being Toyos from Revell Honda Civic and rear tires from Revell C5 Corvette. Disc brakes were used from a Revell Corvette Sting Ray III Interior paint is Rustoluem Advanced Formula Flat Brown. Exterior is Tamiya TS-72 Clear Blue over Rustoluem Silver cleared with Pledge

This is my first “real” post here on the forums, minus a very brief intro. I haven’t built a model in about 16 years, although my collection continues to grow. I consider myself a collector at this point in time, with a hard drive and book shelves filled with reference materials/photos for future builds. I pulled a kit from storage that I thought might interest some. Its a Lassen Project Unimog Series 401. It’s based on the 51 Mercedes Benz Unimog. The closed cab wasn’t available until 53. The kit has been in storage for some time now. The shrink wrap was broken long ago, but this is the first time the sprue have been removed from their individual packages. The detail/engraving is above average for plastic kits produced some 14 years ago. I hope the photos show some of the details. I also hope to get some photos of the directions up soon. When I opened a kit, I would place the directions and decals into a separate binder/plastic to protect them from moisture and aging. I have about 2 dozen binders, all broken up by production year (1:1 car’s production year) and make that I need to go through. Seems the Unimog is not in my 1950-1959 binder.

I recently purchased the 1:18 Lamborghini Miura from Kyosho. My decision is not to start collecting but i do want 3 cars wich i personally think is the pinnacle of automotive engineering. I hope to get the Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Stradale from Autoart. So then it brings me to the last item, who makes the best Mercedes Benz w198 in 1:18 scale?
