First time truck builder with questions. Mack DM 600 Dump

I have not completed a truck kit since I built the Tyrone Malone kits when I was a kid.

I have been waiting years for the Mack truck to come back out so I could do a dump truck. I am combining the DM600 with the Ford dump snow plow.

Here's where I am so far:

The chassis is pretty much done. I added the mount on the back for the dump bed.

I started de-chroming engine parts. Should this ENTIRE engine be painted gold?

A few more questions. Would the DM 600 be a reasonable choice for a dump truck? What does DM 600 even mean?

Also, I have these awesome aftermarket tires that I want to use on the front:

Can I use these rims from a Revell truck with these tires?

DM stands for "Dump" "Mixer" as the truck was developed for the construction market - as a dump or mixer chassis or something along those lines.

There was the lighter weight DM400, the DM600 and DM800 (also in kit form from MPC). All three DM's were available with steel butterfly hoods and fenders.

There was also the DMM which was the front-drive version of the DM line.

The one in this attachment is the later interior.

This is the interior of the kit DM. Color is a mint green, something along the lines of an aircraft interior green. Keep in mind theses pics are from a very old truck, so the green is faded and worn. Flat black works for the floor mat.

These last 2 pics are from a DM 800, the dash is similar to the 600

The DM 600 is fine for the MPC/AMT dump bed like in the Ford snow plow and Paystar kits but the chrome Revell bed is probably out of it's weight rating. I see trucks like this with that size of bed almost daily. Those wheels would be accurate, you could get the truck with the kit style spokes, two hole Budd wheels or the aluminum Alcoa wheels.

The DM600 would be just fine for your dump truck. That's what they are designed for. Yes, the entire engine & transmission should be gold. I found that Tamiya Gold Leaf X12 works quite well. Here is my ENDT 675 Maxidine from my Mack R685ST:

For the interior green, I've heard that Humbrol 120 Matt Light Green is a good match; but I've never used it.

I used Model Master RAF Interior Green on light gray primer for my interior, no clear. Floor and seats are flat black

You are off to a good start. I agree spokes all the way around!

For wheels and tires AITM is a good place to go. OR plaskit has some nice ones as well. If you want an old truck with newer wheels KJ has nice two hole wheels and some nice tires.And he also has some nice grab handles for the dump box as well.
