'51 Chevy sedan

In 1961 I was a senior in high school and this was my ride.

It's a resin kit, using the Fleetline as a donor kit (due to the longer package shelf); the resin body as well as the donor kit had numerous issues and I reached a point where it was just "Git R Done"

The frame was so badly warped that I had to resort to wiring the model to the base of the display case.

Looks fantastic! I have been thinking of picking up this resin for my "Shelf of Chevy" project. Sounds like it is a bit beastly. I built a '51 convertible for the Annual 24 hour build a couple of years ago, and I ran into lots of fit problems. The key to a successful 24 hour build is not having to re engineer the whole kit at 5:30 a.m. Needless to say, I now choose more modern kits with better fit for 24 hour subjects! I like the old kits, when I have the time to sort out all of the little fiddly bits. I really like the Chevy Fleetlines from this era, so I am going to deal with this family of kits again, soon.

You have really made a nice model of a tough kit, topped off by what sounds like a tough resin. I hope my Fleetline looks half this good! If I get the resin to build a '52, what do I need to look out for.?

What body style?

For a coupe/hardtop/convert use a hardtop/convert donor kit; for a sedan or fleetline, use the fleetline as a donor kit. The interior tub for a fleetline and sedan is longer than the tub for a coupe/hardtop/convert.

I had a horrible time getting the windshield and vent windows to fit.

The frame on my donor kit was warped, and I ended up attaching the model to the base so all four wheels would touch.

Nice! Perfect color for the period. Were you accused of having an "old man's" car back in school or envied because you had a car at all ? :)

Not really; the engine was a '53 Powerglide (higher compression ratio, more horsepower) coupled to a 3 on the tree so I could quickly dispel any thoughts of an "old man's car". Besides, a true old man's car had 4 doors.

Really nice.

Really admire who can get a resin body and get to this kind of result. I won't touch the stuff.

To quote our good Doctor Cranky, "I'm addicted to styrene". That doesn't include resin

Know well the AMT Fleetline, built two, and the front end can be a pain to get to fit right.
