b-body fan Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 (edited) Slow day at work today so I decided that post a few pics of my first swat at chopping a top. This started out as an AMT 34 Ford glue bomb I got with some other stuff off eBay. It was painted and partially assembled. (Rough). Should have taken before pics. Anyway here's where I'm at with it. I could use some advice on what the use for a final filler. Tamiya putty is giving me some shrinkage issues. Thanks, Mike. Edited June 16, 2015 by b-body fan
3100 chevy Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Nice start on the chop I use bondo but you have to be careful not to put on to mutch I have found the hobby fillers shrink under the paint to

b-body fan Posted June 16, 2015 Author Posted June 16, 2015 Thanks guys.I'll try that. I was afraid that might make too much heat or distort the plastic. Now I know.
Tom Geiger Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 I did a double take! I was playing with this one just this morning.
b-body fan Posted June 18, 2015 Author Posted June 18, 2015 I'm on the fence with this one at the moment. Fenders or not. I reshaped to wide front fenders to fit the rear. Visa-versa with the narrow rears to better accomodate some big 'n littles.
3100 chevy Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 My grandpa had a 34 hot rod that I plan to build when I acquire the parts Will be watching this one
b-body fan Posted June 19, 2015 Author Posted June 19, 2015 Some progress here. Shortened a 66 Riviera frame. I just didn't like the stock one. Also a quick mock-up to check the stance. Hopefully the last coat of mud on the chop job.
b-body fan Posted June 21, 2015 Author Posted June 21, 2015 To Hemi or not to Hemi? That is the question.
b-body fan Posted June 21, 2015 Author Posted June 21, 2015 A little more progress. That's not the motor that's going in this. Just put it in to mock it up.
b-body fan Posted June 23, 2015 Author Posted June 23, 2015 Latest mock up pics. Had to tunnel the floor. Still not sure what to use for the engine.
Codi Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Excellent chop even if it was your first one Michael. Sharp looking car and I'm curious to your final engine choice. Cheers, Tim
horsepower Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Go with a 427 SOHC Ford motor like the one from the'33 Willys kit, they are available from other kits also. Would make a motor as nasty as aHemi, but keep it all Ford.
b-body fan Posted June 30, 2015 Author Posted June 30, 2015 Decided on the flat head. Made some headers for it and it looked right in the car to me. I made a shroud for the grill and fabbed up an "electric fan ". I didn't like the high mounted one. It didn't flow with the rest of the car. This is the latest mock up. Plenty the do yet, but it's coming along I think.
