IceMan Collections Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 (edited) I'm looking to build something that might not take so much time. Something to get me fired up or excited to finish it. A big scale build I'm working on has me a bit burned out. So I'm starting this 63 Continental. In some of my last purchases, I've gotten ahold of many of the old AMT continentals, 61-66, I believe. A mix of hardtops and convertibles. Most of them are gluebombs and will need stripping and possibly some parts replaced. I already placed an order with Modelhaus last month to get some of those parts. Here is this one. Still has the original price tag on the box. $.99 oh man I wish! I took it apart and seems that most of the stock parts are there. I forgot to take a picture of what it looked like prior to disassembling (I keep forgetting to do that with these rebuilders). But here it is while I was cleaning her up. A corner of the rear broke off. Glued it back into place and it was ready for primer. More cleanup coming up. Of course the repaired piece still showed the crack so I did a thin layer of putty to, hopefully, cover it up. I can't get myself to go all stock. Plus on this one, the wheels were damaged. melted almost right into the tire. Soooo. I have these caddy sombrero hubcaps that I really like. I think that stance will work. Prepped a couple of sets. Some Alcladd Chrome is next on them. Those are Modelhaus tires btw. Edited August 3, 2015 by iceman-555
BIGTRUCK Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I know what you mean, start out one way and as days go on an idea pops up from left field and the entire build goe another way. Idea your building looks fun.
charlie8575 Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I dread something like that happening with my glue bombs, but you're doing a nice job cleaning it up.I love the 1961-'69 Continentals, they, to me, are as close to perfect a design as any car ever produced. It'll be interesting to see what you add for some mild customizing touches.Charlie Larkin
Bob Ellis Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 My definition of a gluebomb is when the glass is hopelessly fused to the body. Your Lincoln seem pretty good.
250 Testa Rossa Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 This is going to be a great build for sure.

72 Charger Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Nice work so far . Did any of the custom bits come in the box ? I would be good to see what came with it.
IceMan Collections Posted July 28, 2015 Author Posted July 28, 2015 Thanks for the comments folks. No custom parts, Dave. It was pretty much built already. I'll have to check my parts box or other Continental kits I have to see what I can add to it.
IceMan Collections Posted July 29, 2015 Author Posted July 29, 2015 Thanks for the comments guys. The inspiration pics too. I won't be doing anything over the top but it does give me some ideas. The putty did its job. Here it is after some wet sanding. I was going to keep the interior as it was but I de idea to strip as well. Working on picking a color and disassembling the engine as well. I'm not sure I really like the engine. What would be a good believable swap?
Sledsel Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 If it is going to be a dark color, fill the quarter dimples. They appear on both sides. I did one in black and was sorry I did not. Love these old boats.

Stevevery true. Some kits used the same artwork and then just stamped the side of the box with what kit was actually inside. Or like this one, the side flap was specific to the kit.

IceMan Collections Posted July 30, 2015 Author Posted July 30, 2015 Last night I airbrushed white as a base color but it's growing on me. I might end up leaving that way. With the chrome it should look pretty nice. Sanding and clearing should tell later this week.
goldfinger Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 NO NO ! Not White! Big and Black . this is the kind of car that Vito Corrleone Would arrive in! or An Ambassador! (just my opinion though)
Jon Cole Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 (edited) My Fotki 1:1 LINCOLN album link for inspiration. Most of it in order by title:http://public.fotki.com/JCole/11_fomoco/11_lincoln__mercury/page5.html Edited July 30, 2015 by Jon Cole
